vtec isent spose to be loud. my freind had a 98 GSR and it was a very smooth transiton, not loud at all. and my other buddy has a 2000 em1 and his vtec is ****in ricey loud. and it does not pull at all. my da smokes his em like it was a sohc. his car is messed up cant figure it out. but if i were you i wouldent worry bout it too much. as long as the car is pulling like its spose to

If it's working, that's all that matters right? Maybe cleaning the solenoid filter will help?

^^Yes this has been covered a million times, you want a smooth transition into vtec not a crack. If a crack is occuring something is wrong.

dc2_916 please do not give stupid, misleading information. Simply putting an Skunk2 IM and a "chipped" ecu will not make "vtec crackk". Idiot.

check timing first check connection at ecu one way to check to see if vtec is working put a test light on the wire that runs out of a3 on the ecu if it lights up it work if not well fix it

how is that stupid?thats what my setup is like right now dummy.. single stage runner intake manifold ,intake, header, and a chipped p28 ecu would definately make it crack alot louder then the dual stage runner manifold .. blah

if your car is stock then of course the v-tec cross over will be very quite...if you just want to hear your v-tec open up your intak box and just run with the filter and no box you should be able to hear a big difference when you gun it.

No you're stupid. Don't quote YouTube about VTEC transition.

Like already stated, VTEC is supposed to be a SMOOTH and seamless transition.

The factory gives it a little pop (which is a dip in the powerband) for the "WOW" factor. It just sounds good to people and everyone loves hearing VTEC. I know I do.

I am surprised that no one asked what kind of air intake do you have? If it is the stock airbox, then yes it will be quiet to the point where you will barely hear it. If you want to hear it, put a cold or short ram intake on it. End of story. No intake manifold, header or exhaust is going to make VTEC louder. The only thing that will make it sound louder is the intake.

The transition is supposed to be smooth and not have a huge jump in power.

my friend has a gsr wit a aem cold air intake, and its annoying. it whistles at low rpms on acceleration. and with the short ram it does the same thing. i dont know why. its the olny gsr around ive ridden in and drove. maybe its just the aem cold air intakes. just somthing to think about if your going to get an intake or even if you have one already lol

there are many reasons why vtec would be loud or quite, cams on your engine, stock or aftermarket air filter,ECU you are using, Timing, Oil pressure, type of exhaust, intake manifold you are using, on stock GSR intake manifold around 6500-6800 rpms you will hear the secondary runners open which is louder than VTEC, and yes Using a Skunk2 manifold changes the note of Vtec engagement i know from personal experience,,

Its not the intake that whistles, its the throttle body. The reason you hear it with an intake in place is because the factory resonator box masks the sound, but that part is removed/bypassed when an intake is used.

Put a filter directly on the TB, and you'll still have the whistling.

didn't bother reading other posts, but it is qute possibly a mechanical malfucntion. maybe the solenoid is not functioning properly or the rod moved from the solenoid is not fully extending in rocker causing the high lift lobe to remain unaffecting the rocker, if it is only one, it could be enough sound weak. once had the filter butted agaist a wall and car was quiet and felt like 40% power was gone. A little defect can make a major difference.

Seamless, but as soon as you add cai, i don't sound so seamless. Well I noticed difference anyway.
