Bought a J32A3 for my '96 TEG... PICS
Bought this 75,000 KM J32A3 from a 2005 TL. $700 CDN. (Pretty cheap I thought, considering this trans sells for this much on its own) What you see is what I bought. There are a few missing bolts, a sensor or two and some other bits and pieces but I'm happy. The engine is also covered in overspray from the shop it was in. Idiots.
I'll be swapping this into my 96 TEG with the HASport kit (I know, sorry) and I'll be doing all the wiring myself.
The guy had no idea what he was getting rid of. He didn't even really know it was 6 Speed. From what I've read, this engine is 270 HP. Don't know the details on torque or how high it revs. Anyone?
Looking at the motor, the most noticeable part is the one piece exhaust cast into the head. Very interesting. I'm sure it's quite restrictive but I think this design would make it easier to put together a custom header/exhaust tube. No, the manifolds did not come with the motor.
There was a whole list of stuff I wanted to get from the car, but they crushed it. Apparently the only things of any "worth" were already removed. AKA engine and trans. Idiots.
I do have some questions... for anyone in the know of J's.
The throttle by wire throttle body, this can be replaced with another J series cable unit?
-If this is the case, I assume a different ECU would need to be used.
-Could I use a CL-S ECU?
The huge mount in the rear, is this used with the HASport kit?
Can I use an Accord 6 Speed shift box with the cables on this trans?
Is this the same trans that came in the '03 CL-S?
-Do I need to get the clutch line damper?
The sensor missing from the hole I pointed out, is it a TEMP SENSOR?
Are there any items I will need that may be missing? Maybe you guys see something that I don't.
I know the crank pulley bolt is missing.
Don't mind the sawdust on the floor, the trans was leaking everywhere.
I am now on the lookout for the rest of the wiring to make my life A LOT easier later on. What vehicles can I take that from?
I removed the PS and AC because I will not be using either. I'm running a looped power rack in my TEG. Time to find a custom belt to spin that alternator!
I'll add any additional questions I have if I think of something else.
PHOTOS!!!
You guys would lose your mind if you watched how we got it in the trailer.
No chain fall
No hoist
No overhead lift of anykind.
No jack.
Just the trailer, and the motor on the floor. Muscle and some cantalever trailer action did the rest.

Is there supposed to be a gasket between this plate and the manifold?

LSD (Torsen type, not helical)

No drilling and tapping required. This part had me nervous if I had a trans without this hole.

some other guy in here did that before. it looked fun. but the hood doesn't fit. if you search it, you might find that thread. he has listed some of the issues you might run into.
Oh yeah for sure the hood will be a challenge. I've researched quite a bit and have jotted down bits and pieces from almost every J swap on the net. But not everyone reveals everything they had a hard time with, so I'm sure there will be a lot of trouble shooting.

Anyone know which years the Accord came with cast-in exhaust manifolds? I'm trying to find after market exhaust setups for this motor but it's looking grim. CUSTOM!
Noone's goin to answer any of my questions? Surely there are some J series guys in here. I shouldn't have posted so many eye candy pics!! It's a distraction!
Not to discourage you but I talked to this guy recently who got a V-6 running in his civic and He said he bought the motor for 600 the tranny for 1000 and paid about 6 to 7 thousand in labor80 G.L My friend. I would have preferred the kseries build process. The engine takes up much more space becoming pretty restrictive. You will have hood clearance issues. If anything I would list it on ebay and see what I could get for it, unless you really want to do it and your up for a battle with minimal resources. GOOD LUCK Nice engine if you can get it going, props x1000

There is actually more firewall to engine clearance than there is presently with the B motor. This will also end up being much cheaper than any k-series.
I bought the engine and trans for $700 CDN
Bought HASport kit to mount it for $880 CDN shipped w/ axles
I can do all the wiring and plumbing myself. I already have the hood clearance issue sorted out. The project will be WELL under the price of a K-swap. Plus, this will walk on a K20 ALL DAY.
Go tell your friend he wasted a TONNE OF MONEY. That's pathetic.
Thanks but no thanks. Um, what exactly do you know about the J-series?

Can you imagine paying someone else to do work on your car for you? It's as stupid as paying someone to cut the grass. Not to mention when you do things yourself you take pride in it and pay closer attention to detail. Idiots.
Have you checked out the website specifically for J32 swaps. I think its j32.com. Also, Honda Tuning had an issue where they did the swap in a civic and listed all the prices for parts. Supposedly it came out a little cheaper than doing a k swap yet you get more hp and torque.
Yeah thanks man. That shiz bothers me to no end.
