Default "state ref" got popped

well i just put my turbo on my gsr last sat then yesterday i got stopped cause i took my silencer out of my apexi exhaust cause it was rattling really bad. so i was at a light then a chp on a bike pulls next to me then right when i drive away he stops me.. he asks about my exhaust then gets my info then asks to pop my hood. im just wondering can they do this for no reason. well he gives me a ticket to go the the ref. well i know its a bitch to get this all stock again so should i just buy a clean shell and transfer everything (my car is salvaged anyway) or go threw the hassel and get it taken care of.. what u guys think

He had a reason to pull you over since your exhaust was modified so yeah he could have popped your hood, I've also been pulled over for that same reason and my hood got popped. If you don't want to go back to stock pay the fine.

You have no choice about popping your hood, sadly. If you say no, he will get a warrant or some other grounds to do it himself, as well as slap you with a lot more fines for wasting his time.

How much is the ticket is there any way at all to fight it. I thought the apexi was legal but i didnt have the silencer on so i guess it dont matter. If i just pay thr fine will that be the end of it. Cause it says my car isnt allowed on the street so wouldnt i need to fix everthing

You can't just pay the fine, you have to fix it. My friend got a ref ticket for exhaust, it's a very simple procedure...you go to the referee and they measure the dB of your exhaust. As mentioned, 95dB is the legal limit. I'm not sure if, with the silencer, your exhaust will be below 95dB. You might want to give it a shot...otherwise you're going to have to change your exhaust.

When i got popped, the fines were $500 and i still HAD to go to a REF station and get it smog to make sure it was legal. It wasent legal, so i had bring it back to stock, but i dont know the laws about it now, could be the same or they change sinced i got mines in 2007.

I tried to fight it, and went to court, with no way to get out of it. That $500 ticket will need to be paid in full, and when they say bumper to bumper inspection, they literally mean BUMPER to BUMPER inspection. I was at the ref station for a good 2 hours, but i passed, and had my car reff'd "B18c1." You might as well get it reffed because your going to have to pay the, $40+.

To avoid any reason for the ref guy to say "FAILED," you should play it safe and get the stock manifold, take off the turbo, put back all the stock components like the exhaust manifold, and intake box, if you have any spliced or exposed wires, tape them up and de-tune your ecu, thats if you got it tuned.

What chassis is the engine in? If its already in a gsr body, you wouldnt be able to bar, it'll just be another smog check. Make sure there is no CEL, Cat is good, all vacuum lines are connected, and no surging idle. My Ref guy failed me before for surging idle, when i was trying to bar a b18c1 for a friend.

pay the fine, my fine was 600 bucks but it was alot easier than sourcing the oem parts out and reverting back to stock

Did they give you a choice? I didn't have any choices I was ordered by the judge to pay the fine and provide proof that my car was smog legal. What year did you get your ref ticket? Maybe the law changed, but since my ref ticket I try not to be in a cops view.

I doubt it will pass, most smog tech (around here), they go by the books even the small shops, they will it's a b series n would fail visual before the car hits the smog machine. I'm sure with a good cat converter and it will pass smog, but the visual inspection is what kills people with b series swaps.
