Post D16Z6 Head

mini-me on my D16Y7-project

i bought a Z6(PO8-5) Head with complete internals and VTEC Solenoid....it was really dirty....rust in the spark plug holes.....and random shii...such as spiders crawling around....the next day i got it cleaned and resurfaced at the auto machine shop...the dude said that the pistons were hitting the valve and the valves were bent and it needed a complete head job...im still waiting for my paycheck so i can get it done...

what brand??
i wanna change:
camshafts
cam gear
valves
valve springs

what bolts do i need(ARP)..*d16z6 head onto a Y7)??

do i need to convert to obd1??

my goal is around 150HP-N/A-or a lil less...

ill post pics of the head soon...

THNKX!!

i've done this combo before

you're going to need:
9 y7 head bolts and one z6 head bolt. buy the head bolts from the dealer unless you want to buy 2 different sets of head studs!
z6 crank pulley (if you ever plan on timing this motor with a timing light). you can get away with a y7 crank pulley but you will be guessing on your ignition timing.
z6 head gasket set
z6 pistons if you want higher compression. it will get you closer to your 150 hp goal
z6 timing belt, y7 water pump (the z6 and y7 water pumps have the same number of teeth but the y7's water pump is better because the pulley does a better job of holding the timing belt in place)

cam and valvetrain options are in your court but the things i just listed are essential!

use a z6 or a y8 tranny because the gearing in the y7 tranny is garbage

most likely your #3 piston hit the exhaust valves. happens every time the timing belt slips

yes, on the block you will benefit from a z6 crank pulley

i would recommend some better pistons than the y7 ones if you plan on reaching your goal of 150 hp. besides, your old y7 rings won't last too long with the z6 head on there + upgraded cam and valvetrain

I had a y7/y8 combo not to long ago. It ran good but never got to building it up.
All it had was a eBay cai(I know,I know it's dirt but it really got the job done),DC 4-1 header and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust.I threw a usdm b16 ecu on it since it was all I had laying around. You should get some good numbers man keep us posted!!

Z6 pistons will lower the compression ratio...

You need to convert to OBD1 and run the P28 ECU.

If you don't want to do that, use a Y8 cam and cam gear with a Y8 ECU (P2P or whatever it is).

If you have a protractor and some white out you can mark the Y7 crank pulley, saving you the cost of a Z6 pulley.

Y7 head bolts are fine to use.

Depending on what intake manifold and throttle body you use, you'll need to do some wiring. The distributor will have to be repinned regardless as you need to use the OBD1 Z6 distributor. Anything else is ghetto and asking for trouble.

Z6 timing belt = Y7 timing belt. Y7 oil pump is fine.
