wheel size
okay...i have 17x8.5 racing hart 3pc c2s on 225/45s bridgestone re-071s. whats the biggest size tire recommended for accord w/h22 swap w/out rubbin and snapping axles. car is dropped on eibach sportlines and soon koni reds..
With 17 inch wheels you should be riding on 215 45 17 tires and with 18s you should be riding with 225 40 18 tires. That is the proper sizes when you upgrade your wheel and tire sizes.

Sure, thats fine if the rims are 7 inch wide, BUT, their not! They are 8.5 inches wide. Meaning you should run anything 225 to 255. Obviously, 255 is way to big and WILL rub, but 225 might require spacers and longer wheel studs depending on your offset.

why run 8.5" wheels when you can only fit 225's???
wider wheels add quite a bit of weight and why have them if you can't take advantage of them? i've put 225's on 6.5" rims...7" would be choice but 8.5'? overkill

not really... he can benifit in the handling aspect of things. A 225's on a 7" wide wheel are going to be a little more mushy during wieght transfer. The bulged side walls flex in and out (aka rollover). 225's on a 8.5" already have the sidewalls "stretched". Look at formula one type cars. they don't stuff the biggest tire they can on there for a reason.
yes it does also add weight.

You are correct. However, I feel this fact is sometimes overstated. UHP tires and MP tires have very very stiff sidewalls...so stiff that the difference between a 205-55 and a 225-45 will amost not be noticable.
that is true but the width of rim it is mounted too can exagerate the difference.
I kind of forget what we are discussing but I don't feel like hitting the back button.
225's on a 8.5" wide wheel will be better than a 225 squeezed onto a 6.5" or 7" wide wheel.
I think that's it.

haha...thats your opinion i respect it..but i got 8.5s because i like WIDE tires..i wasnt thinking of what you like...i do have a set of stock ex's but need to buy some decent tires on there. i think 8.5s looks bad *** too...every one in town has like 7-7.5s if at all....at least i dont go around asking the biggest tire i can fit on a 20....post somewhere below...anyways my cars for my liking not anyone elses

Just because you have 8.5inch wide rims, doesnt mean you have wider tires. A 225mm wide tire is a 225mm wide tire is a 225mm wide.
IMHO, its only slowing you down.

I don't understand what is going on here anymore. People I thought I was agreeing with are argueing against me.
Someone with patience read this thread through and get back to me.

This is true I have run 205-50 and am currently runing 225-40 on a 7in wheel, There is definatly more ultimate traction with the new setup and turn in is the same.
