D16 Engine dying, HELP
Wuddup Fellas
I've just recently posted up on my engine problems, but I will soon be takin it into the shop and need some hard evidence on wht the problem is before I get scammed. Please help me out guys.
Symptoms:
- little to no response from accelerator when moving from a standstill
- bogs down in every gear before gaining speed (very slowly)
- Dies out going uphill (if there was a big enough hill i'm sure it would cut off for sure)
I recently replaced plugs and noticed that the old ones had carbon deposits on them. I think the timing might be off. Anyone know what the problem is?

I haven't heard of timing affecting something like that. Check you're tps, map sensor, transmission module, fuel pressure... Anything that would need or transmit info (voltage signals) to the ecu.
No CEL,
Just replaced plugs wires and distributor cap. I noticed that when I replaced the plugs that they had large carbon deposits on the prong. This is a good indication that the car is running either very rich or lean, but I don't know how to fix the problem and seems to just be getting worse

Replaced rotor, but have not checked to see if the timing belt was properly adjusted. I am trying to get some good hard evidence of what the problem may be before having some redneck mechanic tell me his bs.
Are you guys saying that its definently not the timing?

Sounds like the same problem I am having and going to get it fixed on Friday. My IACV keeps sticking. Really sluggish until about 3000rpms and then it opens up. I cannot make up small hills in 5th gear.
And yup I tried cleaning my IACV with gunk remover, still sticking. I was told there is a flap in the IACV that helps the car idle correctly. Sometimes this will stick at idle which has coolant flowing through it. Making the car think it's still at idle even though you are moving.

Yeah that sounds exactly like my car SiRacer,
I'm probably going to get it checked tommorow morning and I will definently have them check out the IACV. One quick question to anyone can help is whether the Idle Air Controller is the same as IACV or if it is something completely different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

timing is easy to check, no need for a gun, thats oldschool lol
remove the driver side tire after putting the car on a jackstand. undo the plastic thumb screw clip things, and pull down the plastic innner fender liner. get a 17 or 19mm socket, and use that with a ratchet or breaker bar to turn over the motor (in nuetral) slowly til the timing marks on teh pulley line up with the block. now go topside, remove the valvecover via a few 10mm bolts, pop it off carefully, then pull up on the timing belt upper cover. may be held in by a few bolts i think. now check and make sure the timing marks on the cam gear line up. if they dontm, you found your problem

Timing Timing Timing
it's timing sounds like, the same problem i had in my del sol. I couldnt even down shift to get power when i needed it. Check your distributor, the 3 bolts play the the adjustment to see if it makes it better. If it does get a timing gun and do it right.

Yeah,
downshifting only means i'll be dying in a lower gear unless I feel like gunnin it in 2nd. Today I clean the IACV and the throttle body, checked all my line as well as the TPS sensor (as precautionary). Tommorow I will be checking the ignition timing, but wanted to check all other options before hand. When I'm messing with the distributor how should I go about playing with? Any help with tips on ignition timing would be greatly appreciated guys.
Here's a tip I picked up,
Checking the IACV after it's been recently run equals a burnt mustache and the smell of smoke all day
