Default H22a oil orifice in block or not?

We are trying to remember if my jdm h22a has and oil orifice in the block or not? I thought for sure it would but I have had some people tell me it doesnt. We assembled it without it and I dont have enough oil pressure in the head to engage vtec when the car is completely warmed up. I will have vtec until the car gets to full operating temperature.

correct, only use the orifice when using the h23 head.

did you remove the balance shafts?

Your car has to reach operating temp be for vtec will work, did you remember the o-ring under the center cam cap? What oil pressure do you show on your gage?

he said he only has vtec until it reaches operating temp, then no vtec.
and there is NO oring under the canter cam cap on an h22.

there is an orifice that fits into the head under the center cam cap, but the h22 head does not get an oring under the center cam cap like the b series do.

Now i understand what was written, thank you for clearing that up,i was referring to #11 in the pic that goes under the the center cam cap but on the orifice.
Whats your pressure read when cold/warm?

just to be clear for the op..

that oring (#11) wraps around the orifice, then the orifice is inserted into the head. there are two more similar orifices/orings in the head under the first cam caps as well.

you wont actually see the oring after the orifice is inserted into the head.

you wont see an oring under any of the cam caps.

To answer your question, there is no block restrictor on the H22 VTEC. I installed one in my first H22 build, took awhile to figure out why no VTEC.

You sure? That's how my head was when I disassembled it and that's how I put it back together.

yes im sure, if yours came w/ an oring sitting on top of the orifice under the cam cap, someone has been into the motor and mistakenly put it there.

you absolutely do not place an o ring on top of the orifice

Lol, this is fun.... you should not see the o-ring,if you see the o-ring remove it and remove the orifice to make sure it has an o-ring on it, if it does (as it should) you can throw away the other o-ring and reinstall the orifice....

Why, there is NO restricter on a H22 VTEC block. Therefore no "o" ring.

Don, you're talking about the oil control orifice for non-vtec engines that goes in the H23a1 block. This is the one in the head; B-vtec heads have this o-ring too.

EGHATCH4YA209 is talkin about the orifice in the head, not the block...

Im seeking some clarification, I have scoured all the various service manuals from 91-97+ and everything I can get my hands on for the H22a1 vtech prelude shows the orifice and oring, yet all the forums state that oring should not be there. Im confused, which is it? Did they mis print the manuals?

Also, if the orings are infact in there by mistake, would this lead to no oil pressure measured at the head?

sorry this is so late but i couldnt help but answer this....
all vtec heads have an oil control orifice in the top portion of the cylinder head which happens to be underneath the center cam cap. there is no orifice or o-ring that goes between the head and block on h22 engines. only non vtec H-series engines have this o-ring/orifice between block and the head. on h22 engines the o-ring goes around the orifice/oil control then pushed down into the galley of the cylinder head which happens to be below the center cam cap. there should not be any o-ring on or directly beneath the center cam cap where it mates to the cylinder head

There is a bore in bottom and head in the oil passage I would assume call it the oil orfice which goes into the bottom and head bores which has oil passage in the middle of it. Vtec H Motors

I had my mechanic put together my h23vtec blue top vtec would not engage, tried tracing it down on the dyno electrical and mechanical then figured it has to be something with the oil passages. Sure enough took head off and I think it was installed wrong. It appears both bottom end and head have the same part. Installed it right and sure enought went to dyno and vtec worked... We first thought the headgasket was installed wrong and blocking it.
