Shallow Subwoofer
Just found a nice deal and thinking about picking up pioneer shallow subs for it's lightweight and overall size. Tryna pick up some more info if anybody has experience with them.
How does the shallow sub perform (compared to traditional subs)?
Is there any issues/concerns (compared to traditional subs)?

The are differences in the distance the cone travels but as far as sound they aren't that bad. You might want to go to a shop and listen to one yourself. They are mainly made for vehicles with limited space, such as small trucks, and having an "ok" bass sound is better than none.
Thanks for the input that's exactly what I wanted to hear.
Would it sound similar/identical to newer/nicer factory subs?
Less distance=Weaker sound/power??
Nominal power=RMS??
Sorry for all the questions, still learning about the whole audio thing.

We have had nothing but good results with the pioneer subs. They work really well in a small air space and sound awesome. We put two thin 12" woofers in a corvette, and they rocked.
Most flat subs are used out of necessity when depth is a issue. If you can fit a standard subwoofer, you will generally get better results. I have installed many of the Pioneer flat subs (all models), as well as Kenwood's and Rockford's P3S shallow subs. All perform well, but lack excursion and power handling. JL Audio's W5 is the exception, but you will pay a premium for that type of performance in a shallow sub design.

Sounds like I'm gonna have to hear them in person.
As of now, I have a 12" sub which is killing me due to lack of component speakers upfront.
I can't hear highs at all right now
I am planning to pick up components as part of the deal as well as an amp.
JL Audio is top notch quality no question, but as you said, gotta pay to play.
I'm not the biggest audiophile around however, I prefer all around good clear sound rather than trunk rattling bass and no highs.
Wouldn't mind sacrificing some thump over all around quality.
Kinda off topic but, would having components all around(front and back) improve overall sound quality? (my car came with 6 speakers from the factory, including 2 tweeters)
My audio guy says it's a overkill as it's not necessary in the back.
Does that make sense?
Appreciate everyone's input.

I would suggest just getting a nice set of components for up front, a new set of speakers in the back and a four channel amp for all of them. You don't need a different sub just change your settings and turn the bass down to the optimal zone for its quality.

If I felt like spending the money I'd quit f*cking around and just get a JL.
