97 accord f22b2 engine swap
Ok, I am kind of new here - used to working on domestic cars, so I still have alittle to learn about different engine models, etc. I recently got a 97 accord lx 4cyl 5spd. The engine has 200k on it, and when it goes, I would like to swap it out with a vtec. I am not doing anything crazy with turboing the car - I already have a car for that (supercoupe). I have seen the VERY helpful DIY thread, and it does list swaps below. I have a local junkyard that charges $200 for ANY modern engine. I know I will need an ecu as well, but for the minimal work of just taking an engine out - what models/years will bolt right up to the 5-spd tranny? like I said, I don't want to get very involved taking the engine/heads etc. apart - I just want to be "on the lookout" at the junkyard for a car that comes in w/ a low mileage vtec engine, that will be easy to do a swap. I was wondering what kind/type of engine would be the best for this purpouse... Thanks guys
I doubt you will find an H22A1 or H22A4 for $200. But ya never know.
Just so you know what to look for. Keep an eye out for a 92+ Prelude Si VTEC. They contain the DOHC H22A1 or H22A4. The other VTEC option would be the SOHC F22B1 VTEC. It's not so performance oriented. Found in the 94-97 Accord EX.
Your other option is to purchase a rather pricey japanese domestic model engine. aka JDM. There are retailers for these engines online and usually ship with a bunch of swap related parts. They can range anywhere from $1500-3k for a low mileage JDM H22A
Good luck with your hunt

so all of these motors will bolt right up to the tranny? I just didn't know what, if any models may have different bolt patterns, and I get the motor home, only to see that I am going to need a different transmission! like I said - I am not going all crazy with this car - that is what I have this one for:

License plate says "I8URVET" - heh

Yup there are a number of engines that will bolt up to our transmissions. H & F series both work, with the exception of the F20C out of the RWD S2K. It's the engine mounts and accessory brackets that need to be swapped for some of these engines to fit in out chassis.
Nice thunderchicken..lol j/k.
I'm more of a Chev fan, used to own a 79 Camaro with a 383 stroker. Still have a 500 CID WB in my garage for my next build project. Probably a 74 Vet...lol
