Changing Si odometer reading to match cars true mileage
well i have an SI cluster in my car and it has less miles than my car has. i want to change the odometer reading by increasing the mileage so i wont have a problem during smog time. I remember reading a how to long time ago, and ive used the search but with no luck. If someone can link me to the how to id appreciate it.
Here this one but it's for Ef, it should be pretty similar.

im somewhat scared of messing with pulling apart the needle. i was thinking of trying the way the person did it in the link for hte EF. Can i do the same thing for a 00 civic? Can i change the odo without removing the needle
Keep in mind that altering the odometer mileage is against the law regardless of the reason. You will not have any issues with smog checks if you replace the odometer. Too my knowledge only CA looks at the mileage when they do the emissions tests.
Taking apart the odometer and rolling it forward or backward is against the law and should you choose to do it you will be responsible for that.

^^^ x2 Odometer changing is a federal crime, and can include fines and prison. Rather than changing it, write down in your owners manual the reading of the old odometer when you swapped and the mileage of the new si when you installed, so you have a record of the mileage added.
OP, removing the needles isn't too bad. If you can, practice on another cluster first. I didn't break my first or second (only ones I've done so far), but it was better knowing I was only running the risk of breaking the one I didn't want in my car instead of my brand new one. It just put my nerves a bit at ease.
Make sure you're in a room that doesn't have a lot of furniture or stuff in it. The needle likely will fly off when you do this. At least it did half the time for me.
Take a fork. VERY carefully wedge it under the needle (I believe I wedged it so the needle and fork prongs all pointed the same way). Watch out, you can easily scratch the gauge face finish.
Now slowly pull the fork away. You might have to rest for a second and then try again, and again, and again. Don't get down about it.
You'll think you're getting nowhere when all of a sudden the needle rockets off the face.
Retrieve your needle and then get to removing the face from the assembly.
UNTRUE.
Please, please, please do not state assumptions as fact. I understand it was an easy mistake.
I've checked the federal law and have discovered it is legal to change odometers for some reasons.
I figured that if your odometer breaks there has to be SOME way to fix it or get it fixed without breaking a law.

Always try to find local laws before modifying your car too though.
