Please help, starts right up but wont move
I have a 2000 lude. I had to have the entire head resurfaced and all that goes with it about a year ago. The car ran for about 15 miles and then acted like it was flooding out and died. Got mad because i just spent about a grand for no reason so i parked the car and bought a truck. The car still starts right up but if you put it in gear and hit the gas it will flood out and die. There is black soot built up on the back bumper above the muffler. Anybody have any idea what is wrong with it?
head was resurfaced, had rods and pistons and pretty much rebuilt the upper half. There is a make shift intake on it that the guy had on it when i got it. Check engine light is on
Just jump the blue 2P connector next to the OBD2 port on the right hand side of the center console and count the blinks so you don't have to take it anywhere. Knowing your CEL should always be the first place to start as it will tell you the obvious problems.

I had a problem just like this on a Mercedes 300 AMG. The crank position sensor was sending a weak signal. It would start, idle and rev like nothing was wrong. Put it in gear and it acted like there was no power, sputter, black soot and smoke. As soon as the engine started to warm up, it would quit and you couldn't start it again for anything until the engine block temp got below 85 or so degrees F. I replaced the CPS with an e-bay unit and got screwed. Eight months and $2600 later, I finally replaced the CPS again as a last ditch effort. I wanted to strange that ebay *****!
Anyway - bottom line was a really weak or inconsistent spark as soon at the engine starts to get warm. If it was running fine and you weren't reving or racing when the problem started, I would look at the crank position module and coil. They are cheap and easy to replace.
