exhaust fabricators, have question
Any resonator is going to reduce the noise produced. On my civic I have a full 3" exhaust going to a thermal muffler, no resonator, and it is not loud at all. Very nice deep tone, no raspyness.
If you have just a resonator with no muffler, I think it is going to be pretty loud. But like I said, the other way around, (muffler no resonator) is not bad at all.

i run rm-01a, bought new many years ago, over years became very loud ( b pipe has 2 silencers), had muffler repacked by engineering firm (basically no material left when opened up made difference but still much louder than when new
hence my question, i assumed they were hollow but now think they have packing material (sound suppression padding) which may be shot
i just dont want to give to company to open up only to find hollow and waste money

A perforated core muffler or resonator should have packing material in it since they don't rely on destructive interference to work. The fibers are what take the acoustic energy and convert it to heat, making the exhaust quieter.
ill throw this out there since this is a exhaust fab thread. i cant find any Y pipe transitions except from burns (huge $$$$) so i was looking to just get a muffler from magnaflow that is allocated dual in single out. however ill be reversing that and instead of that Y pipe i was going to flop the muffler and have dual in single out. can you flip mufflers without losing performance? this is going on a V8 toyota.
