Default is $6995 too much for a b16a2 swap?

i called this performance shop today asking about a b16a2 swap in my 93 dx hatch and he told me its will cost me $6995 out the door . is he full of **** or what? he also mentioned it was going to be a usdm motor, not even a jdm motor for that price.

Hell no! That cat must be on crack. A b16a2 motor is only bout $2500 at most and install should be no more than $700-1000 depending on location. That cat is full of ****.

its not too much if it includes the car!

omg thats crazy, stay way clear of that shop, btw whats so big about a jdm motor? id rather have a usdm, no muss w/ the wiring being on the oppisite side.

a complete swap goes from $2,500-$3,000 and labor to do the swap is around $700-$1,200.

my nephew whos been a mechanic for over 2o yrs charges $500 to do a swap in his backyard.

hell yeah i'm going to stay away from that shop. i told him i got another quote from another shop that i had just called before him and they told me they would do it for $3100 installed. he told me i was getting ripped off and i need to check if
i'm getting the right motor for that price. he must think i'm a dumbass or something. i should just call him back and tell him he's a dumbfuck. i wonder what he would charge for a ITR swap, i should call and ask for the hell of it. it'll probably be $18000

oh damn...that's way too much $$$ are you sure you didn't miscommunicate the swap??? might want to call them back up and ask them for sure...just to clear things up...might want to talk to another person in there...you know...in case the other guy was on crack or something else...they could have made a mistake...give them the benefit of the doubt...heck...they might have quoted you a B16 with a full turbo kit on it, including the piping and everything else...

I keep this around as an example of what a reputable shop charges for swaps. I'm NOT recommending these guys, mind you. But, go ahead and look at their prices and tell me if "he is full of **** or what."

Maybe the shop is talking about a USDM B16A2 (which is the only correct DM for the B16A2, all JDM B16's are B16A), and the USDM ones are more expensive than the JDM motors.....

[EDIT]......ok, so it is a USDM motor. That explains a little bit of the cost. However, $7000 is absolutely freaking ridiculous. Austin area, huh. Damn. For that price, you'd better get to keep the tools too.......

Do it yourself. I did (B16A2 into a 93 del Sol). I had no prior mechanical knowledge aside from fluid changes, brakes, a little bit of suspension work and such. It was a HUGE learning experience, and gave me a lot more confidence.

Steve
