Car worth keeping
Have a prelude with what appears to be a spun rod bearing. The mechanic said it would cost $2,000 to fix or that I could do it and parts would be about $400.
1. Do these amounts seem correct to fix a spun bearing
2. Is it worth fixing a spun bearing
3. If it is fixed will the car still be reliable or prone to break again.
1997 honda prelude base
also the car will still start and everything else still functions
the body and interior are in pretty good shape
basically my options are to fix that one or get another car for the time being

Its definatly worth fixing. when the car is running does it make a nasty noise from the bottom end? The only problem with fixing it is sometimes if you f'ed up the engine bad enough, as in tore up all the other bearing and maybe even threw the crack out of round. You really aren't going to know the expense of the damage untill you tear it apart. A complete rebuild would cost about 400 including piston rings and all bearings. but why put that much money into something that is just goin to spin another bearing in 5 minutes after starting it up. I you do decide to go the rebuild route make sure you take the crank out and mic it and maybe even have a shop do the crank
If I pull the crank I was going to get it machined also, do the connecting rods need to be machined as well to make them functional again. Im assuming they do Im just trying to get all the info I can before I go and spend money.
