Default Need some direction in choosing camshafts.

Hey

Well to start off, I'm building my first motor. Here are the things i plan on doing to it for reference.

B18c1

Head:
PnP job
ITR style IM(either skunk2/blox/obx)
Camshaft(need some help deciding)
Supertech valve springs

Block:
Boring to 81.5mm
RS Machine ITR copy 81.5mm pistons
LS rods
LS crank
ARP rod bolts

Supporting mods are:
JDM ITR 4-1
AEM V2
Spoon n1 catback

So my question begins here, what are some good quality camshaft options? I want something that will idle smooth, near stock as possible, but will give me great results with the build i am doing. I don't plan on going to crazy, just want something around 180-190+whp gains.

I read some stories about crower cams snapping, I was about to buy some used today but got scared. I have read about others snapping, but not as many stories about crower. But please, shine some input please

Oh an also, I dont plan on revving past 8k.

your going in the same setup as me and reasoning, something simple about that HP range, and I have c5 motor and my head PnP from combustion contraption, with the cam choice I'm going with skunk2 stg2 tuners but I have the stg1 and cant find stg2 tuners........but tuning will be your key and someone else will chime in.......

I was eyeing crower cams but the stories scared me away.

What i am interested in though are the skunk2 stage 2 and the buddy club spec 3. Do either of those idle smooth anyone?

can't go wrong with Jun 3's, skunk2 stage2, skunk2 pro1, blox B, blox HSL, or even skunk2 stage 1 will make good power, a buddys car makes 200whp on a mustang dyno with skunk2 stage 1 cams, similar set-up like urs, oem ITR block, Jeff IB ported GSR head, JG header, skunk2 manifold.

What exactly about Shitty gains, shitty customer service, and past breakage issues scared you?
Let the arguing begin!.......haha! I know there are some happy CrowKer folks out there, and usually you will find they are the Turbo guys.......
Im an H series guy, so the smart guys only look to Skunk2 or JUN. I use both, and have been thrilled.....Crower1 is a joke, Crower2 doesn't even hang with S2S1, and Crower3 can't hang with the S2P2 or JUN.....Not to mention, even the decent Crower Dynos I have witnessed, provided only VTEC+ gains which is NOT why I installed Cams. My car pulls(and makes) power from 4000 like it did from 5000 before......S2S1 and JUN were good for 3500rpm+ power.
Choose wisely and don't get swayed by PRICE or what a couple CrowKer fanbois say!

like someone else posted... stock valvetrain = stock cams.

put some ctr cams in there with a GOOD header you'll make 180-185hp and be done

if you want more you will have to upgrade the springs/retainers.

you can probably get away with stg 1 cams with itr valve train but i wouldnt do it. you're building the motor with time and money so you want it to run right. its always better to be safe than sorry. if you are wanting aftermarket cams than you will need aftermarket valve train. plan and simple as that.

also, you dont want a violent vtec. you want it to be a smooth transition. if you have a violent vtec it doesnt mean that its fast...it means that your motor is not performing at its best.

I know a violent crossover doesn't mean it fast. I just think it sounds sick ha.

But yeah, Skunk2 stage 2 tuner cams idle near stock?

You can barely even hear my JUNs x-over at 5000rpm
On video, people argued whether or not it was even a VTEC.....
Idles a little noisy, but smooth....

I can't advise on Buddy Clubs, but it seems like people are happy with them.

i think the head is where he made the good power from
I know set-ups like his with a stock head or a poorly ported head won't do 200whp on a mustang dyno

theres alot of dyno sheets with your similar mods. try finding them. it will help you decide what you want. also, how much are you planning to spend? is this gonna be your dd? skunk2 tuner stg 2 and buddy club spec 4s idles like stock if you have a good tuner and upgraded fuel system like injectors and fuel pump. look on youtube. theres clips of people with different type of cams. go check it out.

People need to stop comparing dyno #'s from different dynos......
I have witnessed 10% differences on Dynojets.

I'm trying my best to find lightly used cams, so i guess 100-600 depending on what i find.
