Default I need help with some ? about an Mild N/A build..?

Hey guys
Heres is my previous tread on how i bent some valves...https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...587910.....Now my question is.
Im loking to do an mild all motor build for my b18c1 with some type R pistons and some aftermarket cams like some skunk 2s or just some type r cams.
Now the thing that is getting me confused is that would i have to gett a diferent ecu to run what im planing on building...?
One tuning shop said to get VAFC....Ive been reading that this stuff is pretty useless....?
Right now i can gett a sett of type R pistons for 160 with rings and oil rings and wrist pins
How do i know what size to gett for my b18c1.
My hone on the sleves looks great with the hone marks still visible and there is no hatch mark at the top of the sleves like you would see from a heavilly beaten car......?
Hopefully you guys will understand what i mean
I know its confusing butt bear with me please and help me gett trough this
If it wasnt for you guys ( or the hole HT comunity in general) i woulda given up on this car and sold it by now.
All im loking for is an mild build.
Thanks

to do it right, have a machine shop measure the bore of the sleeves, then order the correct size pistons for it.

Did you get the valves fixed?
USDM ITR and JDM ITR pistons would be a good budget upgrade for your compression. Should get your GSR into the 11:1~11.5:1 range.
Check here for compression ratios
http://zealautowerks.com/bseries.html

When you got your head fixed did you upgrade the valve train? ITR springs maybe or, Skunk2, Supertech?
If plan to upgrade your cams a better valve train is a must to keep in safe.

As for the ECU, do you plan to keep the GSR intake manifold or change to a single runner? If you keep the GSR Intake you'll need a P72 OBD1 and with a relay to get the butterflys to work properly. If you are going to change to a single runner a P28 will get the job done. I recommend a Hondata S300, I have one in each of cars, '99 GSR and a '93 Del Sol.

Getting the valves fixed this week once i gett some oem exhaust valves to replace the bent ones.
This is like a mild budget build so i tink i wont need the ITR double springs. Im not planing to rev it till 9 just a DD that will get me to work and be fun to drive around nothing serious.
just to stock gsr redline.

Ok this is what i am planing on doing. Getting the pistons and putting them in the car with stock gsr cams for now untill i find some type R cams or skunks 2s..Then find a skunk 2 intake mani that has a carb on it so that pigs won trip over it. Then install the cams and intake mani togheter whille getting an obd1 ecu to run with my sett up, then gett a street tune. Or wait ill have to gett the ecu to run the type r pistons so they wont lean out/rich out.....or will my stock gsr ecu handle the extra compresion from the type r pistons untill i find an p28 like u stated.
U said about the butterflies...I ran them always open in my car thats why it sounded like a tractor LOL. I disconected the vacum line from the litle thing that makes the buterflies open.
Im gonna try not to spend over like 600 on this whole "mild build"...but as we all know its gonna be more.

if your running bigger cams you MUST upgrade your valvetrain whether you rev it high or not. bigger cams mean more lift & duration and with stock springs they wont be able to close fast enough and you could end bending valves again. save your money and do it right the first time.

How is stock type r cams bigger..........theyre stock theyre not aftermarket like skunks2 etc etc......i understand about them not closing fast enough.

i've been running itr cams on stock gsr valvetrain for bout a year now and no problems. since it is still oem it should be ok. but if you're gonna use aftermarket than i recommend aftermarket valvetrain.

also, i would recommend that you buy all your parts and then put them in all at once. that way you dont have to keep messing with the internals.

I realize that you've already got it honed. Just for future reference and so readers of this thread don't get the wrong idea- When installing new pistons the best way to handle cylinder resurfacing is to have the sleeves matched to the size of the new pistons, rather than the other way around. A good machine shop will measure the piston diameter at various points along the piston. When they bore the cylinder, they'll do so knowing how much material they usually take off during honing and actually make the bore very slightly smaller than the piston. When the honing process is completed, the sleeves end up being very, very close to the exact size of the piston.

ITR cams are obviously bigger because they have more lift and duration. they may not be massively huge but still bigger none the less. regardless if they're aftermarket or not they are bigger than what your running (b16/gsr cams) and your valvetrain isnt set-up to handle the extra lift. you may get lucky you may not.

not trying to hate, but i think your just lucky. personally id make sure my valvetrain can support my cams without a doubt. i wouldnt want pistons meeting valves just because i didnt want to buy $80-$150 valvesprings.

yeah, no problem. i've researched before putting them in. alot people have run them in stock gsr and b16 with no problems. also, i havent heard any one messing up their engine...well, i take it back. i have but they were being stupid bout it, thinking they can rev to 9000rpm...

Thats a really good idea about saving up and putting in all the stuff at once wen i have it all...?

Just dont want to take the head of again and then take the pistons out putt new stuff in
The head is already out and the block is still in the car with the pistons still in it.
I dont want to do double the work
Right now im taking the pistons of and leaving the crank on the block.
I want to putt in the type R pistons (standard gsr bore) in there and run the stock gsr head and gsr cams till i can find some type r cams or skunk 2s.
I know it sounds dumb but thats my only option if i want to do an mild build.

Tell me if. When i putt in the type r pistons on gsr rods and gsr crank...will my stock ecu be able to run the air/fuel mixture for the slightly higher compresion and run good.
?????????????????????
If this isnt gonna work on a stock ecu untill i find a p28 and a skunk 2 mani then im not gonna bother doing this.
I know im a nooob butt bear with me plz

Yes you can. I did this for about 2 years. I did however change my spark plugs to ITR plugs, one colder that GSR plugs.

Whoa....no you can not run 11+ compression on gsr fuel and timing maps. It'll be under fueled and over timed. Get a proper tune from the jump so your afr's are atleast dialed in for the set up.

You can but it is definitely not ideal. Two years was much longer that I planned. His compression ratio will be about 10.8:1. With colder plugs, and some timing pulled out it will run. Hondas are tuned from the factory rich, and very rich in VTEC.
As long as he is not planning to run this way forever and gets it tuned he will be OK. This is much less of risk than running ITR cams on GSR springs.

I changed mi mind
Ima putt the money on were it is most needed in like some itr springs for cams and new valve guide seals and compresion rings. hone stuff like that that is needed the most.
After all this is a daily driver and i need it up an runing by next week.
