Default 98 accord auto tranny/TQ converter replace

while driving, the car dies on the freeway doing about 70mph, then around 40mph (still in D4) driver throws gear into park while still at 40mph and merging off to the side of the road. gear stays in park until complete stop, tranny grinds like ****, and im sitting shotgun too shocked at what just happened to throw the gear into neutral or something besides park. well, now the car starts, but wont shift past REVERSE, there is just hella grinding noise.

question is, while replacing the auto tranny, will i need to replace the torque converter too, or is the original torque converter okay to use?
