I have read that if you have no knock sensor hooked up then it dis engages your vtec, if that was the case you would most likely be putting out a CEL.

But with the last LS/Vtec setup I had I was throwing a CEL for the knock sensor and my Vtec kicked in good and hard...

You may also wanna try getting a whole new Vtec Selonoid and just putting that on. Or take it off and check the screen to see if its clean or not, and check your oil levels!

Also some more info, Like what EXACTLY is on the motor? Just all stock? And what type of car is it in??

You can hook up an oil PSI gauge to your oil pump.

But then ive did ls/Vtec swaps about 3 different cars and this is actually my first b20 vtec and all the ls/vtec ive done had no problem even with no knock sensor plugged in and running on a stock p72 ecu... Check the oil pressure, also take a look at your oil pressure sending unit AKA oil pressure switch.

umm.. and check too see if your low on oil lol

I dont know how to test a Selonoid.

And you might just be unlucky and have to tap and thread a place and hook up aknock.

I have also heard of people wiring a knock into their ecu's and just zip tieing it to the firewall so it gets some vibrations and it will work but idk. I never put one on my lsv

If your cel is on for a knock sensor, then that means that your ecu is looing for a knock sensor signal. Two choices...get your ecu chipped and have the knock sensor disabled, or tap and thread in a knock sensor into your block and plug in it's respective plug.

you can ground the knock sensor wire to get vtec to work.

why dont you check your CEL codes before doing anything else, and let us know. i previously ran with a knock sensor CEL and it never caused VTEC to not engage.

once you have a CEL (check engine light) your car goes into "limp mode" and doesnt let you hit VTEC.

Generally speaking, the ecu does go into safe mode when a cel appears. By the sounds of it there may be a few exceptions. The ecu assumes that running the engine in anything but base timing will damage it, including vtec.
