Inside and Engine bay painting
This is kind of for anyone who has done this.. I'm looking for a cheaper way to paint my bay and the inside of my car as it is now gutted. Id really like the played out "battleship grey". I was wondering what kind of paint to use.
I have seen the "$50 dollar paint job" thread and was wondering if using a grey rustoleum would work well. I was wondering if there are any tips for spraying this in these areas of my car My main concern with this type of paint is how will it hold up in the engine bay at the operating temperatures and also will it smell crazy inside my car if i paint that with it? This car is my Daily/Track car and id like it to look decent and also have something that doesnt smell like i am driving a paint can.

With Rustoleum it will smell for a good few months if you don't give it a good open air dry time in the sun for about a week but even still some smell will be retained some. It will do fine with the under the hood temps, I used Rustoleum over high temp primer on my valve cover. Just make sure you prep the area good and do many light even coats, piling it on heavy will just take longer to dry. A clear coat would be a good idea.
when you do the bay buy a can or 2 of engine degreaser the foam kind and some simple green and clean everything to get the major stuff off. then you are gonna wanna clean the entire thing again with a wax and grease cleaner then paint it up.
painting the inside of the car is sweet as hell. but it will smell for a bit.

Would sanding and priming be necessary? Im kinda on the same boat im gonna be painting my engine bay and inside pretty soon. Ill be installing full interior but I still want the door jambs to look good u know?
your gonna have to scuff everything tho so the paint will "stick"
