Default h22 turbo

hello. I'm about to do a turbo with low boost on my 98 prelude with an h22a. probably 6-7lbs to be safe. I was just wondering if I should leave the gear that's in it or go with a shorter gear like i was planning to do before i wanted to boost it. also, what would be the best mods for a small turbo set up like that? thanks

I wouldn't mess with the gearing if you want traction. I have an H23 (longer gears) without a turbo and I can spin all through 1st and 2nd pretty easily on a dry surface.

What do you mean by best mods? What does your turbo kit consist of?

I agree, don't mess with the gearing at this point. To start off it may be better to choose a power goal and then we may be able to help with suggestions for your setup. How many miles are on your engine right now? Start by getting some leakdown and compression numbers to have an idea of the internal health of the engine.

well im aiming for a 13.00 to 13.5sec car. im getting a cheapy turbo set up for now. like an ebay turbo kit. my car ran a 14.5 at the track in 60degree weather. so basically i want to knock off a second on my 1/4 mile.

Don't do a "cheapy" turbo setup. That's really just a stupid idea. If you want to boost your car, spend the money and do it right.

x2......you'll end up regretting it and replacing everything anyway.
IMO steer away from Turbonetics turbos......Theyre very good, and a lot of people use them, but the shop I go to has had horrible customer service issues with them when it comes to defects.

don't mess with the gear for now......Wait until you can make a Trans Project out of it
LSD
Final Drive
Flywheel
Axles
Clutch

LOL!.......The 100 shot should've been more like 1.5+ for me(but was 1.1).....But Drag Radials owned me with ~300whp/250tq!
On a stock motor, I wouldn't even consider a Turbo.....Not enough R.O.I.(return on investment)......Your average Turbo/Stock motor Prelude is stuck in lala land after spending $2-3-5k! Lala-Land aka high 13s-low14s.
Unless you push the envelope and run 10psi+

Yeah, you can get too crazy with a stock H22. The only way to boost one is to build it first. Then you can start having some fun.

Or you make 300-400whp on a Stock H22A and drive around a ticking timebomb with a mercury switch!

Considering most stockish Prelude owners are stock in 15sec-Land, I guess high 13s isn't too bad with a Turbo......but for the cost! nitrous FTW!...

Name anything for less than $500 that will shave off 1 sec of a 1/4 mile time.

Edit: Nevermind, I just sensed the sarcasm, LOL,

150lbs of Nitrous
100 shot = 1lb/10sec Basically 1 pass at the strip

Go here if you're really curious;
