Default Civic topped out at 115 mph

I was driving the other day on I-95 and there were some cars that passed me going quick. So, once they got a good distance ahead I punched it and got up to 115. From 110-115 it took a while!!!! ....but, with the pedal to the floor the car rolled steady at 115mph for about a minute before I let up.

I thought there was a rev imiter that is suppose to kick in at 118 (1998 Civic LX) or something like that. I didn't hit the limiter, just the top speed.

Can't wait until the B18C1 goes in.

dude the rev limiter has nothing to do with your speed. the thing that kicks in which should of kick in at 115 is the govoner(i think thats the spelling). the rev limiter should be at 7500.

Did you top it out at Dodger's Stadium? Then spin out and yell "****" then drive off like nothing happened? I topped out my EX one time, un modified. It went to 118 and it wouldn't go anymore, so sad.

Get a turbo LS and you will be afraid to punch it on the interstate! It has such long gearing that when the turbo just keep spooling and spooling...you start to get nervous as you get 100+!!!

It kicks ***. Someday I will build a turbo LS.

due to a long ratios tranny, the top speed in 5th gear on my EG 4-dr (with 1.liter back then) was 115mph but in 4th I always topped out @ 121mph.
Since I got B-swap I never did a top speed run.

How is that ****?
It's my car and it's the chance "I" took. It's not like it was rush hour traffic and I was weaving in and out traffic.

My point of the post was not to say that I am cool, but just why my civic would not go past 115 and the rpm's were only in the 5k range.

I was not racing. Just trying to get to a destination quicker & seeing what it would top out at.....

I expected 120 that's all and just wondering why it didn't make it.....

You guys do realize your speedo is not very accurate above 100... right? Why go that fast in little civics. **** I know I wouldn't want to hit anything going that fast in my 95 Civic. You would definatly die. And if a cop saw you... you would be 0wn3d!!! It's really not worth it.

IT was pretty much a one time thing. It's not like I do this all the time. I've seen cars doing faster than 115 on the highways. I've seem numerous cars doing at least 95mph. Usually I see at least one when making the trip from Orlando to Savannah or vise versa!

My brother and I did 112 in his 95 Accord and a Camaro passed us like we were NOTHING! Must of been doing 135.....

I have pics if interested? (I'll have to find them)!

for testing the limits of your car dude.

On the way back from Cali to Utah this summer I did 152mph on a very long and straight section of the highway that was pretty empty of other cars. I was caravanning with my boss and his wife behind us (my wife and friend were in the car too), and afterward he was like, "what the hell?" I held up fingers to tell him I did 150mph and he didn't believe me 'cause I was in a Civic. I think I could've done 160 'cause I wasn't at fuel cut in 5th, but my speedo doesn't read that high, and accelaration with that much wind drag is SLLOWW...
