Default honda accord automated up and down antenna broken.....

hey guys, on my 93 ex accord, the previous owner somehow cut off like half the antenna, i can hear the thing that makes it go up, go up when i turn on the radio but nothing happens to the "half" antenna, the dealer told me it would cost around 150 to fix or replace it, i already forgot, is it that hard to replace that unit, or can i just buy that top part? Are there any types of antennas that you guys would recommend for good reception?

thanks
jon

Im sure you can also do the S2K Antenna conversion. I hated mine going up and down and it finally broke on me. Do a search. A guy named Chris will sell you the kit and its very helpful.

Just get a universal power antenna assembly. Easy install just mount and three wires>>>power>>>ground>>&g t;remote turn on. Buy a new one they go for like $40-50 in Circuit City. Not worth it to buy a used one.

That's exactly what i would do...it's about $49 canadian ($30 USD)

the s2k conversion doesn't give the best reception either, at least not without the booster...and then still it leaves something to be desired (looks great though...no more getting it bent while highway driving)

The reception on the universal power antennas is no different, at least mine wasn't. I get crappy radio reception and have replaced everything in the chain. My Alpine deck, Which I had installed in my previous car as well, got good reception.

I have an ///Alpine head unit and an amplified antenna.. reception is great.. but then again the stations I listen to in So Cal (105.9 Power 106, 100.3 The Beat, 102.7 Kiis FM) all have pretty strong signals... I can say my reception has not degraded w/ the amplified antenna.. can't say if it improved.. seems about the same.. but then the stations I listen to come in pretty clear w/ the stock antenna anyway..

hahah I think your SOL then.. I've driven past your area (on the freeway) when driving from So Cal to Nor Cal along I5 and reception is pretty bad in your area cuz of all the mountains and hills and everything...
