so i debating on going ls vtec or B20 vtec. i am going towards the b20 because no one really does it. just would like to hear some oppinions of people who have done them. people have said that the b20 block is crap but im going to sleave the block that i go with. i am also going to boost it. all forged internals and dual valve springs, retainers, and a turbo cam. thanks for your help.
why not try the 'all motor' section

instead of bumping your thread every 5minutes, and lots of people build b20v's.. just not so much if they live in CA.

what are your goals? is it daily driven gonna be run at the track dyno queen or what? once you figure that out do some research and all your questions will be answered. its magical i know but true!

Are you stupid?
Neither, LS/Vtec's (B18 or B20's) are high compression builds typically, you DO an LS/Vtec FOR all-motor.
If you are going boost, and are aiming for 400+hp, You are going to need a big budget, you might as well just buy and build a GSR or do a poor mans type R (GSR bottom end, B16/ITR head)

I see people building LS Vtec's for boost around here.. I know a guy that has one with right at 700hp on 28lbs of boost... It is really how you build it... BUT, he is right about a BIG BUDGET, the guy that built that one has spent over $6000 just building it with the internals, so you would probably be better off buying a Gsr and building it...

Here, for the OP:
They are essentially the same motor, the B20's have thinner side-walls, so you have less material to work with as far as building up the motor for boost, use a B18 bottom end if you are seriously going to attempt it.
Okay I was planning on putting in a b20 vtech, and when I was looking up some stuff, I found an article by the magazine project honda, where they put the two against each other, "they said!!!!, not me" the b20vtech has higher compression, and is cheaper by little! But B20 vtechs are not good for boostunless built good, the ls-vtech has higher displacment, and handles boost a little bit better, their just about the same

this guy, first lets start out with " v-tech ", its vtec. second im no expert by any means but with a little reading you can easily find that the ls and b20 block share the same stroke but the b20 ( b20 being 2.0 vs ls being 1.8 ) has a larger piston diameter; reason for the larger displacement. if your planning on boosting anything you should do a lot more research before you decide to ask people on what you should build. take a step back use the little search option at the top right hand corner of your screen, thank you and have a nice day!
im not trying to b an *** about it ive seen people blow their **** up bcuz they dont research things on how stuff work almost all of this people on here r trying to help u out their not getting mad at u for what u want to do but u need to read this information on ls/vtec----https://honda-tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2587855
cuz i was planing on building 1 myself but its not worth the money or time i rather build an ls or a gsr but i have an ls so im going to build the **** out of it

ok guys listen............... money is not a problem. i am going to sleeve it. OK so ow that we have that clear. all i asked is what block would be better? i already have a b16 so i have the head. i know i need to research and i know that the b20 has thinner side walls. thats why its a b20. anyways, i don't need sarcasm or the usual your going to need a lot of money..... which would you do????? answer that and that only please. im not trying to be a dick but isn't this forum sapose to be a bunch of guys who help other honda guys out? no need for the rudeness
Sleeve your b16 to 84mm and boost that, youll make the power your looking for. A sleeved B20 and a sleeved B18B are the same rod length, same stroke, same deck height, and the same bore if you sleeve it. At least your B16 has a girdle and oil squirters, those are a big deal.

ok finally some good info. im looking for more low end torque. so i dont have to twiddle my thumb waiting for my turbo to wake up so i can go fast. can i bore out the sleeves so that i can get that?

And if you are 'twiddling your thumbs' waiting for your turbo to spool, that's not the motors fault, that you choosing an incorrect turbo for your build.
