So i'm leavin work today, disarm my alarm, i hear the door unlock so i go to grab the handle and open the door and the handle just flaps around when I touch it... So i get into the passenger side and open the door that way, meanwhile I go back around to the drivers side and check out whats goin on... Its 94 degrees out and about 10 minutes into checkin **** out i say screw it and head home "with only my power lock holding my door shut, once i unlock the door just sits freely open".. So i get home an rip the panel off, to find that the latch that opens the door has this little plastic insert that goes into the handle, it looks like a swivel kinda contraption, has broken out of the rear side of the handle... Well when I push it back into the hole it goes into the door opens and closes so I found the issue.. Now onto my question...
Well any 92-95 civic handle work or does it have to be specifically for a hatch, and does it have to be manual..?? My cars non power but I had power windows/locks installed for my alarm.. I can take pics if that was confusing I was just tryna be descriptive thats all.. Thanks..

So i just went back out there and was messing with it tryna figure that piece out when out the corner of my eye i noticed a circular spring just sittin inside my door panel on the bottom... Now I'm a bit more confused cuz I don't have a clue where it came from but im about 99.9% sure its from the door handle since I've never had any issues with anything else inside there... Anyone..??

This is just set together to what I assume it should look like "just resting there nothings holdin it on"..

This is how it naturally is sitting right now, and how I found it once I took door panel apart...

And this is the spring I found laying in the inner bottom door panel area..

Howdy, new here, although've been readin' for quite a while now.
To the issue: the spring goes under the stud that's supposed to be pressed into the plastic of the handle. Try to glue it back with some epoxy, but I wouldn't take chances that it'll hold. Buy a new handle, any from 92-95 hatch or coupe will work.

I called and he said he wasnt sure cuz the image only showed a front view on the computer, but damn $65 bucks PER SIDE from honda..!! and $14 w/ free shipping on ebay.. WTF..!! lol... if it comes with a new latch & spring im all for ebay special.. I was thinkin even the junkyard, but i can't fathom not spending only $14 bucks to have one brand new.. I emailed the seller "400k feedbacks with 99% rating" and asked if he could send me a pic of the backside or tell me if it comes with those parts... Thanks for response
What's up bro? Been a while!
This is the driver's side handle, in the pic it's upside down so I could get a shot of how the spring mounts. "I think this is what you asked for..."

so i found out new handles dont come with the latch, which has me wondering now... does that pivot piece just snap into that slot in the back side of the handle..??
i just saw a DIY some dude did, where he got a skinny screw and nut to match, drilled through the rivet and door handle and slid the screw all the way through, tightened the nut, and that was basically it.. seems ghetto but i cant go a week or 2 crawlin thru the passeneger side lol...

yeah that happened to mine i made a metal bracket to hold it in. I remeber reading someone who said you can use a bolt and nut to fix it by drilling through the plastic...i think it was trustdestruction but i don't really remember exactly how to fix it.

Maybe ill snap some next time i have the door panel off. I just remember i bent a piece of aluminum over that piece and bolted it to two existing bolts to keep that piece from popping out. The only down side is if you open the handle it stays open if you don't open the door ie. if the doors locked. Although it is nice because i can tell when someone tried to open my door. putting a bolt through it would def be the easiest cheapest way to do it and keep it working 100%
Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but it is the only one that has some pictures. I just ran into the same issue, but I am going to be replacing my handle (not doing the drill through and screw/nut modification).
I am having a real hard time getting off the two rods. First, I want to take off the lock cylinder rod because after that, I can thread the latch rod through the joint if I can't push the whole thing out. Any pointers on doing either one of these? The owners guide just tells you to pry with a flat head screw driver, but I tried that for a good 20 minutes.
Thanks!

Remove both of the 10mm bolts holding the door handle. Now you can pull it out away from the door, and reach the back of the plastic "bush" holding the rod. Pinch this side with needle nose and pull the rod out.
IIRC now you can turn/twist the handle and pop the other rod out of it's holder.
If you really want to keep this car for years, consider replacing those old brittle plastic holders. They are very cheap from Majestic.
Also, I have ordered small parts like this from my local dealership before, asked them to mail them to me and they have done so with NO CHARGE on a few occasions. This saved me money on shipping from Majestic.
This was years ago but it is worth asking. Majestic can nail you on shipping.
