Default h22a engine...no ****

i just purchased a h22a of my buddy. he got it off this v8 guy who had no idea what it was and gave it to him for free. and i bought it from him for 150 bucks. a ****in steal right. but right now we dont know if it runs or if theres anything wrong with it. and also before i buy a harness for it is there anyway to tell by looking at it if its obd1 or obd2 so i dont **** myself with that because right now i have a old beaten h23 in now and i was lookin to drop it in asap. and ideas you have for checking compression without havin it in the car or little thing to let me know whats up with it so i dont have to **** with it now and just drive it for a bit till i get some money to do some work to it

A1 or A4 would be a good start. A4, unless converted, is automatically OBD2. A1 could be either, but more likely OBDI

Or it could be a JDM H22a, which if I'm not mistaken came either OBD1 or 2 depending on the year. Does it have a distributor with it? How many wires going to it?

yea it is a jdm h22a. theres no a1 a4. but i took the head off of it after buying it and second piston was not there and the rod was bent. the combustion chamber is all messed up. i might post some pictures and i plan on selling the good parts from it, the stock cams and gears crankshafts still good i believe and if someone wants to buy the head from me knock yourself out its pretty ****ed though. water pump and all that good ****. planning on rebuilding and boosting my h23 so i need some cash like right now so anyone interested pm me

Get the block sleeved drop some forged pistons and rods rebuild the rest of the bottom but a bare head for a h22 and you have all the internals for the head. That way you can keep that busted h23 running around so you have not downtime if it is your Daily.
