99 accord v6 alternator suggestions
hi,i was wondering if anyone has suggestions on replacing my alternator.
when i slow down i get the alt,e-brake and door/tail lights on the dash.a test with a load tester seemed to tell me that at low rpm it is not putting out enough juice, only around 12 volts when any throttle is applied,it goes up to 14-15?it only comes on for a moment but is quite annoying.again, this only happens when slowing down to stop at a light etc...
i have found a FEW posts on the web with the same or close to the same symptoms and the suggested cure was to replace the alternator, however,i also read that the 99 v6 used a GM type(manufacturer) alternator and that is the cause of the problem.
so my question is what should i replace mine with?all i can seem to find in canada so far are all re-mans,even from honda.i was quoted $251-1yr at honda,$217-3yr at canadian tire and $177-1yr at auto parts place.are re-mans reliable?would it be better to look at a h.o. alternator?
i also looked into getting mine fixed, diode replacement i was told but that would run about $80 and i would still be running old brushes, bearings etc on a 9 year old unit.
oh and the battery is good.
any suggestions or comments??
thanks.
