gsr swap in ls/rs shell? smog legal? no need for bar'd?
im located in socal. i heard that if you drop a 94-01 gsr motor into a 94-01 ls or rs shell you dont need to get it bar'd and its smog legal. is this true?
I would think so. But don't quote me on this. I'm doing a swap too myself, 95 GSR into my 95 RS. If you find out pm me. But I'm sure you'll pass smog.
Well I have a B20VTEC in my 94 RS and its been smogged twice in two States, So Cal and Nevada. All stuff other than what the motor is being stock. I ran a stock LS ecu. One of them is a hook up, but the other one just set it up and ran it.
Is it legal, NO will it pass if you do al the emitions stuff like you're supposed to YES.

What ecu were you running? You have to have hook up on smog or a custom tune ecu and the people who smog your car doesn't know a thing. Either way it's a hook up.
hmm you got a b20 vtec in your rs and you pass legal smog? no wayy?
can anyone that know these stuff answer my quest about the gsr in the ls/rs shell

I don't think it's legal, there was a post on this a while back. I'm not sure but if the GSR engine is USDM then I don't know if it applies. If it's the RS or LS you can only swap B18Bs in it and you have to get them Bar'd because you can only swap motors that were meant for your car so if you have a GSR integra you can only swap a JDM GSR engine into it. Don't quote me on this though.
Now in California JDM engines are completely illegal, or so i have been told by numerous people.
A GSR in a LS is legal I have one and i live in california. The emission equipment needs to be perfect as they are different between the LS and GSR and ref's look for this. The only rule that might prevent this is if the engine is older than the car it is going in to.

oh i c. well my 94 ls is all stock and its smog legal. but my motor about to give out soon. and i was thinking to pick up 94-95 gsr motor. with usdm gsr manifold. if i drop that in i would be able to get a legal smog no problem right?

All you need is a GSR motor that is the same year as your car or newer. And I hear that you have to have all the wires very nice and clean. No half *** wiring or any of that sort.
I have a 95 RS with a GSR swap. I went to a smog station to smog my car because I needed and I passed.
oh.. and that was couple months ago

Back from the dead.
I've heard that JDM Engines such as the B18C GSR can pass smog as long as it passes emissions and such and it is basically a direct replacement.
