replacing clutch in b16 question (exedy replacement clutch kit)
hey everyone i gotta replace my clutch inmy b16a2 i have a exedy replacement clutch. Now it comes with everything as far as the clutch goes, but will i need any new gaskets , and can i drop the tranny with the axel still attached or do i need to take that off? (will be resurfacing the flywheel if it needs it)
Also i think i have a towrn cv boot on the axel coming out the tranny so i may just replace the cv boot well the tranny is droped.
Has anyone used these exedy replacement clutch's this is my daily driver that i put about 40,000 miles a year on it. 1998 civic ex

they are good clutchs. it will help 2324x more if you just take out the axles. put them on the table are replace the boots torn. then take off thetranny and unbolt it all. you should resurface the flywheel anyhow. its cheap to do and worth it. you dont need any gaskets at all for this. its all metal to metal
no gaskets really... axle seals maybe, but not necessesary.
You do need to drain the fluid and remove the axle completely. I suppose you might be able to get it out without removing the axle, but I've never heard of anyone trying.
Also, I would recommend completely replacing the axles if you're going that far. They're only like $100 total for both if you bring the broken ones in for the core return.

just do it right the first time, it will be quicker and better. drain tranny fluid. remove axles. take off trans. i would replace the axle seals since the trans is off and they are cheap. remove flywheel and get it resurfaced. put back together
sorry this may be random but as i was reading this (because i need to do this for my car), should i find someone experienced to help me put it in at home or just go to a shop and have them do it all at once for the usual labor pricings?
Depends.
How mechanically inclined are you?
Do you have decent tools?
Do you have air tools? It will be incredibly easier with air tools.
Do you have a shop manual?
Do you have a backup plan in case you don't get it done in the time allotted?
It's not an incredibly hard job, but I wouldn't recommend a clutch replacement for someone with no experience at all. The first time I did it, I had all of the above, and it took me about 8 hours with help. I would recommend blocking at least 2 full days for it in case you run into problems. Doing it yourself will save you $300-500 labor.
