D16z6 with DOHC ZC Tranny
I am trying to make arrangements to swap out my DOHC ZC for a D16z6 in my 91 CRX Si. My main reason is to make it Cali legal (currently registered in PA). I like the relative simplicity of the D16 swap with the wiring harness adapters which make most of the swap plug and play. Anyway my question is does the D16z6 accept the half shaft for the DOHC ZC tranny because I would like to keep it in the car. I have an '88 ZC motor and tranny and understand the issue of the numbering of splines on the clutch and figure I can still use that tranny as long as I use a clutch for that year but does the half shaft still bolt on to the engine to keep the same tranny or do i need to go back to the old D16a6 tranny or upgrade to the hydro D16z6 tranny. Let me know if I am way off the mark. Thanks.
Yes you can use the half shaft if you continue to use the ZC trans as well as the clutch. There will be no difference just swapping in a different d series.
Heres the deal. I have the exact same setup you mention. The half shaft utilizes 3 bolts to hold it into place, the z6 motor has the 3 holes for the half shaft but only one (the middle hole) is threaded. I've had this setup with only one bolt holding the shaft to the motor for years now making 225 hp to the wheels(turbo) with no issues. If the motor is out of the car you can thread the other 2 holes if you have a tap. Your call.
