Default Car loses all power and dies while driving!

I have a 2001 gs-r and I was driving 65mph down the highway when all of a sudden the car started to lose power in 5th gear and so I down shifted to 4th. The power came back and then all of a sudden the car shuts off so I pull to the side of the road. I waited for awhile and tried to start up the car again and it started with no problem at all so I tried to drive it off the highway to a small road and didn't get to far when it died again. I repeated this method till I got home. What would be the cause of this for my car to suddenly die and start like it's fine again and die again? I took the cat. off and drove it and it still bogged and died so I know that it's not a bad cat. Any impiles would be great thanks.

i think that you should get your alternator checked because this same thing happened to my friends car. Or before you remove your alternator start the car and turn on all the accessories and use the voltmeter to test the volt on the battery i think it should be about 13? or 12?

I did replace my ignition coil not to long ago like 1 month ago but the end tip of the wire where the ICM connects to coil the is burnt because of the clip used to clip there snap so I just rewired some more wires and use the screw from the coil to hold it down and so it would be kept connected. Would the Alternator shut the car off like that? I thought only toyota's do that. I thought once the car is running the alternator stays on and till the dies the alternator won't generate it. By the way are LS and GS-R distributor parts interchangable? I am talking about like the ICM and Ignition coil.?? I need to know asap before I lose a chance at a great steal? thanks

I just check for spark and no spark. Could it be the ICM or Coil? I took apart the dizzy from the head and couldn't put it back and when I check the motor was not on TDC and so I moved it to TDC and was able to put back the dizzy. Would it cause the motor to not be TDC because of sudden shut off?
