89 Civic ND alternator - Mitsubishi OK?
Difficulty finding ND alternator locally these days. They seem to all have the Mitubishi instead.
Looks like upper flange for adjusting bolt is thinner on the Mitsubishi than on the ND.
Has anyone substituted the Mitsubishi alternator for the Nippodenso and if so do you have any hints?
Thanks,
John

edit: this thread is about alternators.. I don't know what i was thinking..
yeah i have. there is no issue swapping between them. ive used the mitsu and the ND both on my 91 si with no issues. I think there are 3 different hp starters for our cars offered as OEM.. if i remember correct there is a 1.8 hp, a 1.9 and a 2.1 hp model. i think the mitsubishi is the 1.8, the ND is 1.9, and then the wagovan rt4wd had a 2.1 specific for that car for some reason. All of them work.

Thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated. Guess I'll pick one up and use some washers to make up the space between the bracket and flange at the top adjusting bolt.
Thanks again,
John

wait sorry, i was talking about starters, not alternators.. i was tired.
The alternators all should be interchangeable as well though. I dont have quite as much experience with those however.. someone should chime in and confirm or deny that they are in fact interchangeable.

It's working. Actually I didn't need the spacer washer because the smaller flange actually matched up. The bolt sticks through the other side a little farther, that's all.
I will drive it for awhile, but so far so good.
Thanks,
John
