Default 95 accord rev issue

I have a 95 accord. I only recently began to modify it and noticed a revving issue. Its a 95 accord lx with a 4 speed automatic transmission. Only mods I've done are changing the filter to a high flow filter and adding a universal oem style megan racing muffler with 2 1/4 piping. When I floor it it shifts at about 4500 hundred rpm. If i "manually" shift it cuts off at just above 5000 rpm and won't go any higher. My girlfriends accord (same exact make and model, but completely stock) redlines and shifts at 6000 rpm when you floor it. I can't figure out what's going on. any help would greatly be appreciated. thx ahead of time

You state that you never noticed this RPM shift engagement point problem prior to your air filter and exhaust mods.

Did you reset the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) after doing these modifications?
If you haven't reset the ECU try this and see if that helps.

ECU reset procedure;
• Turn ignition switch off
• Remove Back Up (7.5 A) fuse from the under hood relay/fuse box for 10 seconds.

I reset my ecu. No help. Still shifts at 4500 rpm. To add to my initial post........A friend of mine verified that it was shifting at 4500 rpm before I modified my car. My sister (both it's previous and original owner) had it's head rebuilt at about 180,000 miles (it's now at 219,000). I thought it could be the tachometer,but its fine at idle and at cruising speed. I just can't get it to rev any higher than 4500(when letting it shift on it's own)/5000rpm (when manually shifting). A co worker took a look at it and stated that my accelerator cable was too loose and had too much play. He stated that this could be the cause? could this be true? Again, thx in advance

You should check and see if it opens the throttle body all the way then I guess. I can't imagine how it could be loose and have too much play though...

What does he consider to be loose? They are not supposed to be supper tight. There is supposed to be some slack in the cable. How much deflection (slack) would you say your cable has now?

If you have a volt/multimeter you can check your TPS and make sure that you are getting 100% WOT voltage to the ECU. The TPS should be 0.5v at closed throttle with a smooth transition of voltage as you open the throttle plate to approx. 4.5v @ Wide Open Throttle.

If you want the test procedures PM me and I can send them to you.
