I have a 1988 Crx Si. Stock everything.
When I press the gas pedal lightly, there is no noise.
When I press it more than half-way to the floor, there is a high pitch buzz noise coming from behind the glove box approximately.
Is this a vacuum leak? Has anyone had this problem before? It is kind of annoying. Car also sputters while idling.
I cleaned out the IAVC, and have replaced the ignitor. So I ruled those out.
Any help is appreciated.

 

theres your problem right there...your car is 20+ years old; it's a lost cause!!!

 

Could it be that the vibrations from the engine are rattling your glovebox? try removing it and see if the noise goes away.

 

im guessing you have a cold air intake on it? or a stock system with a K&n filter?

i know it sounds funny but these are funny for a high pitched whistle when you half throttle it, then when you full throttle or let off it goes away.

put the stock system on and filter and see if it still does it. most likely will go away if its what i think it is.
oh i know you said it sounds like behind the glove box, but if you didn't know that it was the intake you would probably think it did come from behind there.

 

I have a half-stock intake. I took off the bottom half of the box, and zip-tied my filter into the top half. Cheap cold air intake...
That could really cause it though? I will put on the rest of it tonight, and try it out. It would make sense, since the intake is in that general area.

 

im running a stock intake system with a k&n filter and the lower box behind bumper and hoses disconnected and mine does the same thing.

ya try to put it all back to stock filter and all and see what happens.

kind of an annoying whistle noise is usually it tho.

 

Turns out it is the air intake. I hate the restrictive stock intake... So I will just have to put up with the whistling.
