ABS + brake functionality (95 Ex Wagon)

Independent mechanic told me ABS system was shot. How functional are the brakes w/o the ABS working, i.e., do they work like the brakes on a car that does not have ABS?

You should be fine. How does he know it is shot? Test it yourself, drive over some water, and stomp on the brakes.
