Default few gsr turbo questions guys.

Hi all

Doin a stock B18c4 build (essentially a GSR motor) in my EG9 using rc 550's, walbro 255, garrett 57 trim, equal length custom top mount mani, tial 38mm wgate and blitz DSBC. All gonna be mapped on Crome Gold on 97 pump gas. Ideally wanting 280-300whp for street. Iv have a good search but to no avail! Here are my few questions, any help mucho appreciated as always. I no these are simple questions but this is my first boosted vtec! I need good advise! :-)

Am i best using stock intake system or a venom style that i have?
Is the stock 60mm Tbody a restriction for my goal?
Will a 2.5" exhaust system be adequate?
What size intercooler u think to get my goal? I have a 2.5" inlet'd 580x230x80 at the mo?

Cheers in advance, hope u like my car. JTCC replica. Marc

-I'm guessing you mean the Venom Intake Manifold, if so then yes use the venom
-No it'll be fine, If anything get it matched to the Intake manifold
-I'd step up to a 3"
-If you already have that one it will be fine, it is a little large for your goals though.

Also if you already have those parts I'd buy bigger injectors and shoot for 350-400whp instead, as those would be the only part that would keep you from reaching it.

cheers mate for speedy reply.

The intake looks identical to a venom, however it has no markings on it? Thawt it may be a copy? Its nice quality tho.

The T body diameter is smaller than the inlet mani hole, so i guess i cant match it?

Intercooler was basically as good a size as my front panel will practically allow without chopping and going daft. I pressumed biggest poss was good idea? (within reason etc..)

As for the injector size, I think 300whp will be a safe limit for a stock GSR botom end so may keep them for now?

cheers again Marc

Yea if you don't wan't to go any bigger the 550s you have are fine. But you are pretty much setup for the future when you want more power, cause you will want more power haha.

Ya know what? Everyone has said that to me. I used to be an NA ***, but now i want boost! Surely i will be happy with 300bhp on a street car stripped out etc tho if 200bhp felt fine before? Its my mates fault. His built D series motor changed my mind in secs when i had a ride! It was mental on a 2 bar of boost! Prior to that i was NA all the way!

if i were you i would just use stock im. 550's are a lil small but for you power goal they will work.

2.5 is ok but you'd have better results with 3in.

stock throttle body is fine for what you want.

I put down 378hp to the wheels with a stock B18c1 with a skunk2 intake manifold and stock throttle body and 3 inch exhaust with no cat and a dump tube off the wastegate and the car was still breaking up due to a bad spark plug wire

most people that buy 550's end up buying 750's or bigger later on. but if you want to stay around that power goal then you wouldn't be wasting your money.

Wow thats mega! Good numbers! The dyno's here in the UK seem to read much lower than urs in the US. Stingy UK bastards i recon! If i get 250WHP il be over the moon. Iv already got the 550's as i got em really cheap. Like £50 off a mate cheap! If i max em out il get some bigger ones and sell these on easily.

How much diff will a 3" make over a 2.5" system in terms of numbers and powerband? I suppose at my level not much?

to be honest i am not sure how much of a difference the 3inch exhaust will make... I went that route because i am planning on sleeving and building the engine from the bottom up

I liked my stock IM with the IAb's removed for the street. I made 419whp on 93 octane @22psi and 496whp on Q16. I got the edlebrock victor x and proffessional products 68mm tb and made 431whp on 93 octane @18psi and 532whp on Q16. I think the stock manifold has alot more streetable powerband. And I like my 3" exhaust over my old 2.5". All this was done @ RLZ on conservative dyno.

Def get rid of the stock IM. Get a Skunk2 IM since your HP goals are not that high. and go for 3" exhaust. 550'ccs like stated are good for rough 350whp. so if 300whp is all you want, then those r fine

Too lateto turn back. Iv gone with a venom type ally fabricated one. Its got Trumpets on the inside of the plenum and stuff. Runner are a bit fatter than oem and much shorter. It also looks lovely, not essential for power but i do like it to look good also. Il see what its like on dyno, il take it off it its crap. Marc
