Default Need some suggestions on spring rates...

Hey guys, So I'm thinking about lowing my car and from my research, Koni Yellows and GC Coils seems to the best setup.

I'm not sure what spring rate I should go with, the car should be a daily for a good while so I want a comfortable ride. It is on 15" OEM but I'll be 16" aftermarket sooner or later.

What are the top hats for exactly? is it a good idea to get them also? So my questions are:

1. Suggested spring rate for comfortable daily?
2. Good idea to buy the top hats also?
3. Does anyone know who's got the best price on this combo under our sponsored sales?
4. Spring rates doesn't affect the height right? how far could I drop it? I was thinking about 2" in the front and 3" in the back.

Thanks H-T!

excessive drops limit suspension travel which is what you really want to maintain. if you go as low as you're saying you need stiffer rates to prevent bottoming. the car will be quick on smooth surfaces but a nightmare on bumpy roads. if you drive crazy on back roads you will probably hate life. if you drop 2" or less up front and maybe 1.5" out back you could do 350lb up front and 275lb out back for a fairly balanced setup. it's sporty but won't kill your body doing DD detail like high rates will. BTW why would you want the back an inch lower than the front? you'll promote even more understeer and have the car looking funky. if you want to slam, coilovers like the skunk pro-c are awesome because they allow you to lower without effecting shock travel.

1. For daily, I ride 6k/8k. I'm happy.
2. I heard stock top hats are fine, unless you're tracking it.
3. I don't know much about priNces. LOL.
4. No, spring rates DON'T affect ride height, sir.

Toodles.

And like what idrivesidways said,

just buy a set of coilovers that have an adjustable bottom mount that allow you to lower your vehicle without effecting shock travel.

I wanted Koni/GC because of all the positive things I've heard and the price is nice.

So I guess I wouldn't want to lower the back more than the front? I should keep it pretty even drop front and back?

Oh, and I don't get the 6k/8k.... please explain? sorry...

1. Koni/GC with OTS rates
2. Yes, just for the front
3. Ask them all
4. No, 1 finger gap all around is a good place to start.

very close, ground control will talk to you about rates but they have good DD rates matched to the konis you can order off the shelf. custom rates, like the guy who said 6k, 8k will work on the konis but aren't really suited to DD use or a neutral car. they are really geared at auto-x with the higher rear rate. then again i wonder if the guy has it backwards since 8k front and 6k rear is a common setup

I guess I will be purchasing the Koni, GC with rates around 350/275 and two top hats, that sounds good?
