Just got a 95 Ex...what now?
So I just purchased a 95 Civic EX coupe... Its black and a 5 speed. So far all I have done was take my blaupunkt from my old explorer and drop it into this. Sadly I work at a Dodge Dealership, and as such my experience with the Honda's is one that is limited to my ricer friends.
I am looking for some low cost bolt ons, and some rims. I already know about the I/H/E...and honestly I don't want my car to sound faster than it is. I feel that just a nice set of <$1000 rims, a tint, and a cold air will finish it off. Well, until I get some money for FI.
Okay, so tell me what you all think. I will take pictures later today...but hey...It's a damn 95 ex.

Well, I wouldn't upgrade any exhaust components since you are planning to go FI in the future. I wouldn't waste $1000 on wheels unless they were extremely light. If that's the price of the wheels plus tires, I say go for it. The first things I would start out with are the intake and ignition system:
AEM CAI
MSD ignition components
Apexi VAFC
At this point there is no reason to upgrade the exhaust because you will need to consider diameter of the exhaust piping and type of exhaust system. When the time comes to go FI , look for 3" exhaust by Thermal R&D.

save your money for going FI if that's what you really want and forget about the bolt-ons, if anything, maybe pick up an AEM cold air intake, get a few hp and improve your gas mileage. work on the suspension first and get some nice wheels/tires...if performance/function is priority, get some cheap, light 15"s(rotas are good) on good rubber and drop it on a decent spring/shock combo or coilovers. as for tint, I wouldn't go any higher than 35% otherwise it looks kinda tacky, but hey, whatever tickles your pickle. just hang around this board for a few weeks and you'll be able to answer all your questions better than I can I'm sure. take it easy and good luck with the ride.

Sell it, and buy something lighter...

EDIT: What is a good place to buy wheels / tires from? I live in NY, so out of state would be nice (but not too far, shipping!)

that's the obvious answer, be smarter than that.

Yeah, I'm out in Syracuse and got my Rotor Rooters(Rotas) from Revolution. Good service and QUICK shipping! www.groupbuycenter.com Just type in "rota" on a search and you get some results.
Have fun.
And as far as hooking up a coupe. Go for it. "I like big TRUNKS and I can not lie....." - Sir Mix a Who?

i am basically in the same situation as you, so i figured i would let you know what i had in mind. i have a 97 EX, and its completely stock (for now). im saving money for FI cuz thats what i really want. im not gunna really buy I/H/E right now when i will be replacing most of it with the turbo mani and such.
thats just IMO. but then again, do what you want and have fun with it

my sugestion is why stress the SOHC even more than it is with a turbo and then rely on it for a few years .
What I'd do is some minor bolt ons to the SOHC right now , look for a cheap exhaust , look to build a custom cai and that should run you well under 500 USD . Stay on stock cat and headers , and then spray a 50 shot on the engine to have your fun till you blow it .
On a side note my friend with a stock 1.5 sprayed it like crazy for a while , took the kit off and the engine now has just passed 270 000 Km and it still runs good and fast . So this setup I think will let you have you fun and hold out a bit more , get a bit more info on what you want and what you need and then swap engines and go FI ... a much better choice IMO since i'm not a great fan of the SOHC limits , ESPECIALLY on a heavier car .

Do the ignition systems really improve performance any? I see a lot of people saling their MSD systems on ebay because they said they didn't notice any improvements. Right now, i'm running bosche wires and bosche duel spark plugs.

Yes, because obviously that 2 or 3 hundred pounds makes a difference to me when Im just pounding around the streets. Sorry I enjoy the luxury of power, and a roof. You have a lot of posts to be trolling, while I have few and have been lurking for so long just to register here
Just having fun with a fellow EX owner. And what does post count have to do with being a troll? You people rely on post count to much. I could troll with only 3 posts if i wanted...
