Icon6 engine swap info needed

and i have a request that i am surprised NO one has requested - i've done searches and haven't seen anything on this in this entire forum....

a how-to for a b16a, b18c, or even a b20b swap into a EF.... this seems to be the most common swap, yet scouring the internet, i can't find any real how-to pages. i see a lot of how to's on the wiring problem with VTEC, but not much in the way of the step-by-step process...

i mean a complete how to, with steps and all.... (ex. step 1 -remove wheels, step 2 - remove brakes/axles, whatever.... i don't know).

pictures would be a help to. i would think if you guys could get that up, you would be an internet force in the swap arena.

even the hybrid forum has NOTHING on this. blows my mind.

most of the tuners that sell swap kits have little to no information, or real half-assed information. some just have fitment charts.

if anyone can even find a link to a definitive how-to (even hondaswap was a joke, and hybrid honda was a joke too - and these are supposed to be reference sites).

if you find anything, please let me know. I don't want to have a shop do the swap because i u cant trust the shops in my area.

If you can take out your old motor you can put the new one in. Basically yank your motor, put your mounts and t bracket on the new one, bolt it in. Change throttle cable. Install new linkage and axles. Convert to mpfi in you allready havent and decide if you want to convert to obd1. Its as easy as it gets.

what you need is:
motor
mounts
axles
hubs(depending on what car it is)
matching tranny
matching shift linkage
matching dizzy
ecu
conversion harness
have your car wired for mpfi or as a base mpfi model
the right radiator headers intake gaskets etc
matching throttle cable(some dont fit some do depending on ur car)
trans mounts
t bracket
flywheel/clutch assembly
propper throttle body/intake
matching alternator
matching pulleys(some dont work from other motors some do)

thats basically it from my recollection

disconnect the battery and the harness plugs from the motor to the chassis
pull the throttle cable
take off brake booster line
take off fuel lines
take off a/c lines
disconnect radiator hoses
disconnect the starter wires
disconnect the o2 sensor(s)
disconnect any Manifold Absolute Pressure lines/evap lines

after this your basically done with the electrical issues of undoing your motor

next the tranny stuff(oh so fun):
disconnect the cv axles
disconnect the bitch pin(aka shifter linkage pin)
disconnect the other bolt on the shifter linkage
unscrew all the trans mounts
unscrew the back bracket on the tranny
undo the hydro or cable line to the tranny from your clutch pedal/resivor and cap it off(note this is only for hydro trannies)

mounts:

obviously your this far into the removal of your old motor, so it would be wise to use an engine jack or just a really good jack with a block of wood th drop your old motor. i preferr to pull it out from the top, but others preferr the undercarriage method.

simply jack the car way up into the air or use a car life. reguardless, your gonna need enough room to easily slide the motor out from under the car. unbolt the pass driver and rear mounts and lower it, and presto! your done!

************************************************** ******************

if your gonna drop your motor do it as stated above, if your gonna pull it from the top you'll need: a cherry picker, some good strong rope(i like to use towing or rock climbing rope myself) or a chain.

in this case you should make sure your car is high enough to put the braces of the puller under the car. then make sure you got some good mounting points for the motor to be pulled out with the rope/tow strap/chain. i personally like to use a combo of the mounts tranny and intake/exhaust items. but to each is their own

hook the picker up to the motor, jack it up a little then undo the mounts and presto! pull it all the way out and your done!

NOTE: you may want to have your hood taken off for this method. much easier

OKAY! now that your done with all that, ready your other motor and attach your tranny(i like to attach the tranny before dropping it into the car. saves less hassle and stress later on.

attach your mounts intake echayst etc and obviously you put your clutch flywheel setup indide the tranny/motor before you connected it.

carefully lower it into the car. or carefully lower the car towards the engine. make sure all the mounts are in place and bolt em up! then repeat all the wiring steps as i mentioned before

NOTE: it usually is easier to have the ball joints(lower) disconnected for ease of putting the cv axles or new hubs into their place while dropping the motor into place.

hope my now to be aching/hurting fingers did you some justice/painted a picture in your head of how its supposed to be done
