Can I swap my tranny internals?

Long story short.. guy was driving my car. Was going fast, but coming to a stop. Tried putting car into first gear while gliding fast, wouldn't go in. He forced it in. Car made loud noise. Now car only drives in 4th gear... any gear, including neutral, is 4th gear. I've been told by people they think it's the synchros.
So my question is, I have a guy offering me stock internals to my trans for 100$.. is it worth it? Does my trans sound like something that can be fixed by merely swapping internals?
Thanks
Matt

Damn.. I dont want to do all that lol.
Honestly I think I may just buy a new tranny, then fix the old one and sell it once its out of the car. Thank for the offers of help though, I might just hold you to it!

Somebody has mentioned to me it may be a clutch fork or something? The car is stuck in 4th gear, but the shifter moves around to all the gears except like 1st and reverse I think... the linkage on the tranny seems to go forward and backwards and up and down. Is this normal? Could it maybe just be that?
Here are a few options as to what could be wrong:
1. Bolt on shift shaft broke
2. Bitch pin is out of shift linkage
3. Shift selector is broken
4. Shift slector is jambed
5. Shift fork broken
6. Shift fork bent
7. Just about anything else in the trans could be an issue. Remove trans. Take it apart. You'll figure out what it is as soon as you split the case, I'm sure. Something like this is typically pretty obvious.....
