Car shakes violently when accelerating... why?
I have a JDM b16a 2nd generation in my 96 civic hatch.
Just recently i noticed when i drive the car in 2nd, 3rd, and forth the car shakes alot and the shifter shakes side to side as well.
When cruising at a constant speed (a.k.a highway at 60mph) i don't feel any shaking. Also the car doesn't shake when reving or idle. Its only when the clutch is engaged.
With this said i've ruled out a bent axel, an unbalanced tire and a loose flywheel.
In addition, for a while now i've noticed that my clutch doesn't grab anymore, it feels like my stock d series clutch from my 97 civic. The clutch is new as of last september (stored the car in the winter) and is an Action 1MS clutch kit.
Could these two problems be related?
does anyone know what could be causing this?

have you replaced the axles?
if not, thats a likely cause of the problem.
i know you said you ruled those out. but you didnt say if you replaced them

for a loose axel i should check the large nut on the hub? i remember tightening it tight i got someone else to check it as well... ould a bent axel cause the shaking on acceleration and not at a constant speed? is that even possible?
i've replaced the passenger one right before this shaking started... firs time i took the car out after changing the axel is when i noticed it the axel is not a new one it is a used axle.

if its used that could be your problem, check the CV joints, could be a burned/warped flywheel, bad disc............ is it making any noise associated with the shaking?
the flywheel was also new as of september and this was like a day to night problem not gradual... im gonna try putting my old one back on tonight just for kicks... but what do you guys think about the clutch? it used to be off and on before and now it feels like a stock clutch... even worse a worn out stock clutch.

the shaking is mostly in the steering wheel and shift **** as well as the whole car... im thinking that theres something wrong with the axel... i guess ill only be certain once i put my old one back in..
any other ideas/confirmations would be helpful

he states "first time i took the car out after changing axle is when he noticed the vibraiton."
was the new axle flussh with the tranny?
one day they didn't do it.. parked the car in the garage.. i changed the axel.. waited a week and pulled it out and voila violent shaking.
but is it possible with a crooked axel that it only vibrates on acceleration, wouldn't it vibrate at constant speed too?

yes it would vibrate at constant speed also. happened on my integra. it would vibrate on and off. and if im "lucky" i would find the spot and it would vibrate like no tomorrow.
well right when i get home i switched axels and whoever called it was indeed correct!
crooked axel FTL
but now i still have the clutch issue... anyone help me with that?

op its either one of two things, the axles, or a loose motor mount, check both, if not replace the axles there not that expensive, and it won't hurt to have new ones even if its not the problem.
I have the same problem as you do. My car shakes when im accelerating from 0-25 mph. from 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear. I replaced 2 half shafts (drive shaft) and my problem was gone! it cost me $200 for part+labor.
for your clutch...
weak pedal feel?
weak engagement of tires to pavement?
does the clutch slip?
so basically what factors are missing from what your clutch used to do compared to now?

no disrespect to the o.p. but quick question since we are on the subject, i have a ls axle and some other axle, i have a itr swap and i still feel vibrations on the axle that i got replaced , would that be causing the problem?
replace your wheel bearings. I had the same problem on my crx just at a cruise its fine but when you step on the gas then you feel it. I replaced my motor mounts it stoped it a little but it was still there, then i did both axles still there but then i did wheel bearings and it all went away i would say try that first good luck.
