Messed up main bearings....
Hey guys I recient;y got a d16z6 free from a friend, he told me the kid who owned it before me turboed it and drove it untuned for about 3 weeks and than blew the motor.... However since it was blown he said i can take it.. So that day I stripped it down completly and noticedthat the head, the valves, the valvetrain, the pistons and rods and rings and rod bearings, along with the cylendar walls are all fine. Even the crank seemed fine no marks or grooves. However when I did remove the oil pan i saw some metal shavings so i knew something was wrong. 4out of 5 main bearings were pretty messed up thats it. Oblivously driving it untuned was the cause but what do you guys think happend was it caused by oil starvation or to low of an oil pressure, what usually causes you to blow or damage main bearings ???? Also exactly what year car did the d16z6 come out of ?
Clearances too loose on the bearings, oil pump failure, ran too low on oil, rev'ed too high with not enough oil pressure etc. Tuning should have nothing to do with the main bearings.
I'm voting oil pump failure.. We had a freshly built d series take out 1 main and 1 rod bearing in the burn out box. The only thing we could figure was that the oil pump crapped out.
what turbo did he use? did he use a oil restrictor?
on one of my turbo setups i did not use a oil restrictor and the center main bearing was about to spin. so yes bad pump, loose motor,or no restrictor
