Default flashing CEL

hey,
I don't have a code reader and my CEL flashes for 10 seconds when i start the car (2002 EP3) then goes off for the rest of the ride. All i have on the car is a head unit (not the problem) and a used injen CAI with password:JDM filter (probably has something to do with it) if anyone knows what this could be that'd be great otherwise i'll have to find a code reader somewhere or just finally fork over the $ for one.

thanks in advance
-Nate

just a standard light that comes on at a certain mileage. Maybe 90k? i think that was mine. Hold down the button on your speedo for about 10 seconds i think.

That's not the Check Engine light. It's the Maintenance Required light. Two very different things.

The Check Engine light indicates an emissions control system problem. The Maintenance Required light is just a mileage ticker that comes on every 7500 miles or so to remind you of services.

To reset the Maint. Req.'d light, turn the car off completely. Press and hold the odometer select/reset button with one hand. While holding the button, turn the key to "on" (position II). Continue to hold the button while the Maintenance light blinks (or stays on solid, depending on status). After about 8 seconds or so, it will turn off. It has now been reset. You can let go of the button and go about your business.
