2002 Honda Civic EX (automatic) Transmission Problem at 77,XXX miles?
My 2002 Honda Civic EX (automatic trans) 77,XXX miles, had no prior problems until yesterday when it left me stuck in the middle of an intersection, embarassing and very dangerous. It started in the morning hours, on my daily commute when I entered the freeway, noticed the transmission feels like it's "slipping". I turned around and started heading back home, that's when the car just stopped suddenly, and left me stuck just like that, with no prior issues with the car. The check engine light came on, it has a fault code name; "gear ratio incorrect".
Is there anybody out there knows what's going on with this Civic?, my wife car, a 2000 Toyota Corolla (automatic trans), it runs strong at over 145,XXX miles. Does Honda have any recalls regarding this models?. Any info would help me out, i'll be calling repair shops to get an estimate first. I just don't want to be "taken" by dishonest shops out there, again, any info or question is appreciated, ALOHA!!!!! fjr

Had it changed twice, at @ 30,XXX and at @ 60,XXX miles. Fluid in there now is still looks "clean", color looks "normal", and it doesn't "smell burnt". Thank u, any ideas?...
I have a similiar issue with my wifes car. It seems like it is slipping when you first put it in gear, but once you get going it seems fine. Any suggestions?
My fiance's car has the same problem. She has 118xxx on her 02. I researched and it seems like this is quite the issue with 01 and 02 honda civics. So now I'm trying to find her a trans but good luck cause they are quite expensive... gl

The only benefit I have is I can remove it myself and tear it down. I've never rebuilt an automatic trans before but my old teacher owns his own transmission shop. So I've been talking to him about bringing it in there and doing the re-build. How is yours running now?
Get the factory service manual. www.helminc.com if you plan on rebuilding it man.

Do the 2003 Honda Civic automatic trannys have this same issue of slipping? Is the preventative solution to simply change the transmission fluid often (how many miles in between?)
I'm thinking of picking up a daily driver and have the budget for a 2002/2003
