I do a lot of travelling on the interstate. I drive a 97' LX and on most days the car will cruise at 75 right under 3000 rpm's. Sometimes, however, it will not drop down to just below 3000. On those days, it stays between 3250 and 3300, and uses considerably more gas.

My first instinct is a transmission problem, but it doesn't seem too serious to need a complete new one. I was wondering if this is a common problem and maybe more simple than that??

 

Its sounds like the transmission isnt "locking up"

 

Any solutions?

 

Pull off the lockup solenoids and clean their screens.
