Default Chassis Code Cheat Sheet (Other Specs too!)

I will be using this thread to post chassis code information along with trim information in relation to different markets and any other specs I think might fit well within this thread.

PLEASE LINK TO THIS THREAD INSTEAD OF MAKING OTHER THREADS GO OFF TOPIC ABOUT CHASSIS CODES!

First, I'll post the "general terms" often used by people who are into Hondas.

What is an EG?

This can (in the scene) refer to either all '92-'95 (fifth gen / 5G) Civics or all '92-'95 Civic hatches. In reality it refers to certain fifth generation Civic hatches, sedans and del Sols.

What is an EK?

This can (in the scene) refer to either all '96-'00 (sixth gen / 6G) Civics or all '96-'00 Civic hatches. In reality it refers to certain sixth generation Civic hatches and sedans.

Then what is an EJ / EM / EN???

Oddly enough, "EJ" is a bit more confusing since it covers both fifth and sixth generations of Civics in the US alone. Nearly all US 6th gen Civics are EJs though, while all US 5th gen coupes are EJs. The only 6th gen Civics in the US that are not EJ chassis are the EM1 and EN1.

I believe I've gotten all the models covered in this section (besides five-doors and Aerodecks) in this short little list. I'm primarily into 6th gens though, so I'm sure I screwed up somewhere. Plus some of these codes are hard to come by.

Chassis codes rarely point toward just one particular engine. It's more of an engine "type". For example, an EK4 would come with some sort of 1.6L DOHC VTEC, which can include the B16A, B16A2, B16A4 and so on.

I'll edit this post if there is more information to post in it. If you have any missing information and have a good citable source, please PM me with the information and I will edit the post.

1992-2000 Civic and Del Sol Chassis Codes
Below I have included lists of what engine and body style each chassis code matches to.

The chassis code that your vehicle was first designated by the factory will never change, even if you do an engine swap or weld your rear doors shut. The only way an EJ6 will ever be an EK9 is if that EJ6 got melted down, sold to Honda, and Honda made that metal back into an EK9.

5G (1991-1995) Models:

EG3 - 1.3L SOHC non-VTEC 3 door
EG4 - 1.5L SOHC non-VTEC 3 door
EG5 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC 3 door
EG6 - 1.6L DOHC VTEC 3 door
EG7 - 1.3L SOHC non-VTEC 4 door
EG8 - 1.5L SOHC non-VTEC 4 door
EG9 - 1.6L DOHC VTEC 4 door
EH1 - 1.6L SOHC ?? 4 door 4WD
EH2 - 1.5L SOHC non-VTEC/VTEC-E 3 door

EH8 - 1.2L SOHC ?? 4 door
EH9 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC 4 door
EJ1 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC 2 door
EJ2 - 1.5L SOHC non-VTEC 2 door

EJ8 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC 2/4 door
EJ9 - 1.4L SOHC non-VTEC 3/4 door
EK1 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC-E 3/4 door
EK2 - 1.3L SOHC non-VTEC? 3/3 door
EK3 - 1.5L SOHC VTEC 3/4 door
EK4 - 1.6L DOHC VTEC 3/4 door
EK5 - 1.6L SOHC ?? 4 door 4WD
EK6 - ??L SOHC ?? 3 door
EK7 - ??L SOHC ?? 3 door
EK8 - 1.6L SOHC ?? 4 door 4WD
EK9 - 1.6L DOHC VTEC 3 door
EM1 - 1.6L DOHC VTEC 2 door
EN1 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC CNG 4 door

del Sol (1992-1998) Models:

EG1 - 1.5L SOHC non-VTEC
EG2 - 1.6L DOHC VTEC
EH6 - 1.6L SOHC (non-VTEC and VTEC)
EJ4 - 1.6L SOHC ??

So what are the chassis codes for US models?

Not all of the above cars are available in the US. You've probably heard a few (in particular EG6, EG9, EK4 and EK9) in reference to USDM cars, but those cars aren't were never available originally in the US.

Here are the chassis codes (and their matching trim levels, engines, etc.) that were originally available in the US. These account for about 99% of the Civics you see on the road in the United States of America.

The specs of these cars might vary slightly from cars sharing the same chassis codes in other countries.

It would end all disputes on here and keep new people from wasting thread posts and being confused... just like the motor swap info that is available.

Theres countless threads where this list would have avoided pointless argumentative back and forth posts where neither party was right about chassis codes.
Lets just try to get it finished.
Good work

Glad to have been able to help.

I know I took down the full chassis code list in the other thread, but this information is as complete as I could manage to get it.

Might as well bump this again to let the newer members know.

Is there anyway you could give me your source? I just really don't want to spread false information or non-verified information.

I'll only add information I believe to be trustworthy to the first post.

Until I get some verification about the weights, I won't add them to the first post at all.

My source is the following:
http://www.hondaoldies.de/Korbmacher...onda/honda.htm

It lists almost all models, missing only a few.

The author is a Honda-addict who drove a lot of models himself.

Added weights to each listing thanks to 420eg95's post, info from the service manuals, and Team del Sol.

So the B16A3 has a compression ratio of 10.4:1?
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I though all B16s were 10.2:1 in North America.

Trivial I know, I suppose that's just how I am.
