Coolant expansion bay
Hi. I have a 99 Honda civic sedan. When you check the coolant in the expansion bay, do you check the level when the engine is hot or cold? Does it mater if the engine is cold or hot when checking coolant level in the expansion bay?
if the motor is hot and pressure is built the coolant will rise in the radiator
when its cold it will go down
when its cold make sure the resevoir is filled up to the middle line. about to max.

did you drain it all? fill the radiator to the top(alot) almost 2 gallons if totaly empty.
fill resevoir half full. jack up the front end. and let the car idle. wait for it to get hot and the thermostat opens and pulls in the coolant. keep an eye on the coolant(doing this with cap off) it will overflow (building pressure) then itl drop and go into the motor. you can hand pump the bottom hose to get air bubbles out...if your just low. fill it up and the resevoir half full

The mechanic replaced the engine coolant a couple of days ago. I just checked the level of engine coolant in the expansion bay and it's way below the minimum mark? Is it supposed to be like that or should I go back to the mechanic? He charged me for 4liters of coolant.
