I have a 95 honda civic ex vtech. I took it to a smog station and they said my hydrocarbon numbers are too high at 900 RPM. But it's fine at higher RPM! He said maybe vacuum leak or a tune up is needed. I do have a blown piston ring in number 3 cylinder though. Could this be the perp? I really need it to pass smog so help!!

 

if you have low compression and are burning oil, that will make the hc's higher than acceptable.

what is the minimum, and where are you?

 

Man that sounds like the problem. I do have low comp and burn oil. My minimum is 100 and i'm at 322 in HC.

 

only thing i can say is make sure the cat is good and hot. but if it is burning oil, you may have to start there.
