Default GC top hat question.

Stupid question but, I want to know why you can't use these on other coilover kits? This is according to Ground Control.

Honda Upper Mount (pair) ONLY FITS Ground
Control coil-over kits. 12MM KONI

that is straight off my invoice.

Why would that matter? GC uses a OD 2.5" spring so wouldn't any 2.5" spring work ie. swift or skunk2?

Yes it will work. They say that so that people dont try to use them on other diameter springs and stuff. You have the skunk2s right? My friend has skunk2 slip on coilovers on his illuminas with the GC top hats and he has yet to have any complaints

I haven't ran Skunk2 with Koni's since 99-00. I recently had a theft scare where my stereo that got stolen almost totaled out my car to salvage title and that is the only reason why I am not installing full AMR coilovers, if my car get stolen that would just screw me big time since my 98 EK has 40k original miles and I would probably get it back salvaged title. I recently found some old Skunk2 slip on's that I want to pair with Koni's but this time I am gonna install them correctly using the Skunk2 Koni adapter with the GC top hats in the front. I am removing my Apexi N1 full bodies because one of the struts are blown.

Wow never knew they stole cars in HI. Time to step up your security.

And i found out why GC says that it is ONLY for their coilovers:
"NOTE: These uppermounts require the reuse of some components that are included with your Ground Control coilover kit. These Hondamounts can ONLY be used in conjunction with a Ground Control kit."

BUT being as how the only difference i see between the GCs and my skunk2 coilovers is the spring isolators it shall work perfectly

You didn't read what he said...

OD OF THE SHOCKS vs the ID OF THE MOUNT.

The #1 purpose of the GC up mounts is to allow the shock body to go UP into the upper mount.

If you run them with another coilover system that isn't going to happen so you will have metal to metal contact.

Your telling me that it's gonna hit the sleeve? Really? C'mon man most if not all even generic coilovers don't even come within 1/2" of the strut top. On top of that your telling me the sleeve fits into the top hat? That I gotta see.

Not the sleeve, but my Koni shocks fit up inside my GC extended upper mounts just fine. That's how they allow more bump travel, by allowing the shock to move up into the mount, which is further than a stock mount would allow.

Now, once the shock is about 3/4" inside the upper mount, and the bumpstop is fully compressed, then the GC sleeve will hit the upper mount. This never happens on the car though, becasue the UCA will hit the shock tower before the sleeve hits the mount.

But I already knew it fits the struts or they wouldn't have made it for the Koni struts.

i thought you were not talking about the Shock, spring, whole combo.

I didn't know you were talking about other GC type coilover systems.
