H22a or D15b
So i currently have a jdm h22a in my dd car. I have a b20 swap for sale & someone wants to trade just the longblock for a fully built d15b that he claim gets 180-200whp.. If everything is legit & i do it should i swap out the h22 & throw the sohc in?? Feedback, questions, comments welcome... oh yea, & he said he'll throw in a tranny..
Unless the D15B has some kind of forced induction with it, to make the 180-200whp, he's lying to you. That kind of power in a D-series would mean that the engine was built with very high compression, possibly stroked, a very aggressive camshaft, the whole 9 yards. That would only make it good for a track car. But honestly, chances are he's just throwing out some random number, because he has no clue what kind of power it really makes. Either way it'd likely be a bad investment to do that trade. Plus the fact that your H22A makes close to the power (probably more) of what the D15B will realistically end up making. IMO, not worth it either way.

JoesphColy: Well the reason why i was contemplating the sohc>h22 would be that i would be able to get a/c & power steering(if i wanted it) would be lighter than the h22 & have the same or slightly better mpg than my h22 being as it is my dd. & i would get around 900-1200k if i sold the swap & all that would be good for is some pistons OR nice set of cams. I dont want to waste 800-1k just to get 10-20hp haha.
CivicSpoon: Yeah i was guessing he was exaggerating a little on the 180-200whp, even though its fully built. & your right unless I'm building a track car (which i have neither the time/money) I guess it isn't practicle. However I was thinking I could maybe sale it & make 700-1100 off it oppose to making 400-600 if i sold my stock b20. & still have the rest of my swap to sale...

smh doesnt sound like 180-200whp to me haha. he claimed it dyno'd at 171.
well he says he still has the engine in his car so im gonna go ahead & check it out i guess...

whats wrong with that?
it should get the same or better mpg as the H22 and you should be able to fit ac and p/s on a b-series.

While 200whp from a SOHC 1.6L is possible I dont think we are dealing with a full on NA race motor....on top of that anyone who has built a SOHC to that level would sell it to a fellow SOHC NA guy.....not some random guy with an H22

Sell the B series stuff....say no thanks to Mr. SOHC and buy yourself an F/H 23 block so you can build a killer bottom end for the that H22 VTEC head, Pro 2 cams, SMSP/RMF etc.. header, 2.5"+ exhaust 260+whp190+ftbs tq NA
Say hello to Daily Driver 11's NA
Once your bottom end is built you can sell off your H22 bottom to one of the boosted guys who blew their sleeves
