So i currently have a jdm h22a in my dd car. I have a b20 swap for sale & someone wants to trade just the longblock for a fully built d15b that he claim gets 180-200whp.. If everything is legit & i do it should i swap out the h22 & throw the sohc in?? Feedback, questions, comments welcome... oh yea, & he said he'll throw in a tranny..

 

i dont know why you would trade out a H22 for a SOHC 1.5 liter. even if it is rated at "180-200 HP". just sell the whole B20 swap to someone and put the money into your H22.

 

Unless the D15B has some kind of forced induction with it, to make the 180-200whp, he's lying to you. That kind of power in a D-series would mean that the engine was built with very high compression, possibly stroked, a very aggressive camshaft, the whole 9 yards. That would only make it good for a track car. But honestly, chances are he's just throwing out some random number, because he has no clue what kind of power it really makes. Either way it'd likely be a bad investment to do that trade. Plus the fact that your H22A makes close to the power (probably more) of what the D15B will realistically end up making. IMO, not worth it either way.

I agree with civicspoon, there isn't anyway that a D15b is going to make 180-200whp without forced induction.

 

JoesphColy: Well the reason why i was contemplating the sohc>h22 would be that i would be able to get a/c & power steering(if i wanted it) would be lighter than the h22 & have the same or slightly better mpg than my h22 being as it is my dd. & i would get around 900-1200k if i sold the swap & all that would be good for is some pistons OR nice set of cams. I dont want to waste 800-1k just to get 10-20hp haha.

CivicSpoon: Yeah i was guessing he was exaggerating a little on the 180-200whp, even though its fully built. & your right unless I'm building a track car (which i have neither the time/money) I guess it isn't practicle. However I was thinking I could maybe sale it & make 700-1100 off it oppose to making 400-600 if i sold my stock b20. & still have the rest of my swap to sale...

Called the guy up, so he said he built it him self, & it has:

Stage 2 skunk2 cams
port & polished head
10.2 ngk spark plugs/wires
i/h/e & some other little things

smh doesnt sound like 180-200whp to me haha. he claimed it dyno'd at 171.

well he says he still has the engine in his car so im gonna go ahead & check it out i guess...

the d15b would be the same weight with A/C as the H22 without it. No point in spending the time on a built D15B with "200 hp" when your H22 already comes with that completely stock. Better air intake, intake manifold, ECU tuning, and Header back exhaust would greatly help your MPG if thats your main concern.

 

This guy is just trying to kick you in the ***** and take your money. Please don't trade a h22 for a d series no matter what the hell he did to it.

more like 117 maybe even less, keep the h22 it'll have more torque and power without the boost, unless the d15b is boosted also

it should get the same or better mpg as the H22 and you should be able to fit ac and p/s on a b-series.

i think it would def be better than a d-series.

 

isnt the d15 stock sitting at like 98hp at the crank! even with the pnp and cam maybe 115-120 crank hp. this guy is full of ****

 

I am a sohc guy but i would keep the h22 in the car get a head package and do the h2b tranny conversion. h2b's are the new k-killers.

I'm a single cam Guy also. but i would never trade out even a Stock H22A for any built or not built single cam.

 

IMO dont even get the d15 just sell your b20 instead and use the money on your h, h22a>d15b all day man

 

While 200whp from a SOHC 1.6L is possible I dont think we are dealing with a full on NA race motor....on top of that anyone who has built a SOHC to that level would sell it to a fellow SOHC NA guy.....not some random guy with an H22

SO...

Sell the B series stuff....say no thanks to Mr. SOHC and buy yourself an F/H 23 block so you can build a killer bottom end for the that H22 VTEC head, Pro 2 cams, SMSP/RMF etc.. header, 2.5"+ exhaust 260+whp190+ftbs tq NA

Say hello to Daily Driver 11's NA

Once your bottom end is built you can sell off your H22 bottom to one of the boosted guys who blew their sleeves

if its a D15B its rated at 130hp at the crank.

 

This is not a decision you need to make.

Forget the D15.
Keep the H22.
