I'm about to go look at a mint looking CRX with a B17a1 in it. The guy says it blows blue smoke so it is burning oil. He is asking 2,000 or best offer. What do you guys think I should offer him for it?

Blue book on the chassis since

a) Modifications are a depreciating asset
b) the engine is going to need to be rebuilt on your time / dime anyways.

 

ok. where do i get a blue book on the chassis? i go to KBB.com but that is for the whole car..should i just offer him the value of a crx in poor cond.?

 

Have you driven the said car? Does the trans grind, and odd noises clunks or anything of that nature? Make sure to check the frame rails and make sure they didn't just bondo up the car to make it look pretty when really it's rotting away. Take a small mechanics magnet or use your hand and tap on the metal, if it makes a hollow sound chances are bondo is present especially check the rear 1/4 over the wheels. I would say 1500 if the only thing with the car is the burning oil and the body is not bondo'ed, as it will cost ~500 bucks for a full rebuild of the motor.
